METRO MAD MAN

ive been told by a dealer friend of mine, that the cheapest way to buy a car isnt CASH ! ! !
buy it with financing with no pre payoff penalty, finance the car for a month or so, then take your cash and pay it off.
there is how you buy it with cash.
make sure there is no penalties though.
just tryin to help

Yeah...I found it odd that the speedometer wasn't in the center with tachometer left and gas right or vice versa

Turbo? Was the fiesta with furbo?
Yes
Something the salesman told me about the turbo.....for it to kick in the car needs to build up it's "boost." I don't understand the technicalities involved with turbo engines, but I can seriously say when I gave it the gas, the cars MOVED!!
The sound you heard is direct injection, they're kind of noisy.

Boost is....boost. The turbo has to spool (spin) and increase the intake pressure from 0psi to around 15psi. This takes a little bit of time and usually doesn't fully happen to several thousand RPMs. (2000+ usually) Up until that point the turbo is only giving a little bit of the boost, maybe 5 psi to 10 psi which makes the engine feel slower than it is once the "boost" kicks in.

I probably screwed up that definition but I think you'll get the idea.

I drove a 2013 fiesta automatic and didn't like the way the car shifted gears. It didn't rev the rpms till it shifted to the next gear like an older auto does. Felt super sluggish unless you put your foot into it. Also had too many blind spots around the car with it's unusual styling. Ride was quiet and comfortable though.

That dash, in my opinion, is hideous. And you won't be putting in an aftermarket stereo without a major kit to fill the odd ball shape or one of the more expensive custom fit jobs.

Pays to be sure. Talk with the finance guy, get the details. No early payoff penalties? Deal! Pay it off at the first bill.

Daughter & boyfriend rented a 2013 Fiesta with automatic. Drove about 1200 miles. Said it got 40 some mpg. Hated how it shifted tho . Very jerky at lower speeds. Has the dual clutch manual thats automatically shifted. Yeah, you read that right. The automatic is really a manual trans thats computer controlled. Similar style thats in the Focus. Go to a Focus forum & see how much that trans is hated. Similar style trans has been used by VW for awhile. They mostly have their bugs worked out by now. 5 speed manual is the only trans I'd consider on the Fiesta or Focus right now.

If you can get your best price by financing it why not finance......get it for 36 months and pay it off in a year assuming interest is low and there are no pre payment penalties??
Because it's not their best price! They might drop the sticker, but they'll hit you with the finance charge, carrying fees, processing fees, etc. They also OWN the financing company, sooooooooo........

Sure, I guess I could finance it, then make one large payment and pay it off. But I believe there are still some prepayment penalties.
We've financed cars at dealerships before to get a discounted price then payed the car off on the first payment. Cash offers at car dealerships aren't as popular as you'd think - it deprives them of making finance charges and interest. You just gotta play the game. If you consider the finance-and-pay-it-off-on-the-first-payment option, make sure there are no pre-payment penalties. I think those are rare these days but you want to check.

The cash price is often higher than one financed through their captive finance agency - they get incentives from them that aren't available unless you finance.

You have to allow the turbo to spool up (get turning faster by using the faster moving exhaust gas produced by the faster engine rpms). The time it takes for the slow moving turbo to start spinning fast enough to produce good boost pressure is called lag. More than likely the little turbo on that Fiesta did not have much lag so you didn't feel it. Also, more than likely the salesman didn't have a freaking clue what he was talking about or how a turbo works.

Some basic non-technical turbo stuff here (just the first video I found, probably much better ones out there):

Me standing by my dream turbo for the Metro. It would have a little lag but once spooled up - WATCH OUT!

Oh, it would be a great business plan to give a discount to people financing. Most buyers would have good intentions on paying the loan back very quickly but soon fall into the habit of making minimum payments (maximum interest for the dealership). As others have said, read the fine print. Some loans charge all the interest first before a dime gets paid on the principal. I'd watch out for that.

Geostalker, you gotta think outside the box.....can't believe everything Dave Ramsey says.... :P (you gotta think, he is projecting to millions of people so he has to explain things in a certain way).

Geostalker, we all know the best way to get a price is to wait and buy it used several months or a year down the road.

In the ideal world it should be cheaper to pay with cash, but a significant part of their business is financing. Like others said, look into playing their game, but play it better. As others have said, read the fine print. For every person like you that would immediately pay it off, there are 1000 people who would just make payments......

Good luck with your car search.

In five years we'll start seeing used Ford Fiestas flooding the market. Maybe I'll get one then for a good price, minus the depreciation.

Is that from a ship or something? You couldn't get that thing to spin up with a Geo engine, if it was hooked directly to the flywheel...lol
