O2 sensor WIRE IN THE LOOM IS MELTED? Has anyone delt with this?; 0132/ BURNT WIRE IN THE LOOM

Just another wrench.

1998 OBDII flashed 0132. I shut it off and it has stayed off.

Driving conditions: I was decelerating and came to a stop at a signal light. CEL came on.

I have replaced both O2 sensors and the code 132 came back at deceleration or idle. I have a melted orange/red wire in the wire loom (I know fear!). I am studying the FSM. And I will trace wire in the loom to the fuse box (or where it terminates). :banghead

Any experience with this? :O

Here is the scoop.

I have an Orange or red wire that is exposed and looks melted in the wire loom side of the wiring harness. These wires look cheap and thin. This is scary to me. How well did they make this wire loom? Any experience is welcome.

Well I dive into it tomorrow afternoon. I hope I can get the pin out of the connector and re-wire the fried bit to the PCM/computer or the first connector where the wire is intact. I will replace any fried bits. The next job is the T pins for voltage measurements. The melted red wire goes to the PCM (I hope that that unit is not cooked!) I suspect that the 131 low voltage is that red wire to the PCM grounding out some where.

I just wish I knew how it became a crispy critter so I could remedy the problem (red o2 upstream to PCM).

I hope to have pictures. If anyone with OBDII has had a HO2 bank 1 sensor (up stream) burn the red wire to the PCM I would love to hear your Experience. I plan on sorting some of that rats nest of wiring out and cable it properly (454 spec).

Just another wrench.

I have started to dis assemble the loom a bit. The Red wire is "shielded" by foil and a ground. It is nicked and looks as though it has been hot.
I keep pulling a "pending code" then CEL comes on and and the Code is 0132. I will be replacing the wire for about 12 inches and see what happens.

I have spliced the red wire on the loom side of HO2 #1. No codes thus far. I will hope. I will be going to AA Geo salvage for the O@ loom connector Tomorrow..

When splicing that shielded wire, do not let any of the shielding touch, or come close, to the inner wire. :shake Peal the shielding back 1/4" before soldering the connector. :gamerz

I was throwing random O2 sensor codes before I discovered my error. :news My shielding is braid, not foil. One little hair would randomly touch with our massive freeze/thaw cycle here up north. :cold Bang! O2 code! :smackface

I put a soldier-less connector shunt in and no Code! :rocker I picked up a connector in a wrecking yard for 10.00 bucks. Better than a kick in the teeth. I will soldier the new wire harness connector/ plug to the loom and see what happens. B-)

Thanks Snow fish. I saw the Shielding and will re-ground and shield the new plug wire with foil and heat tape Over the soldered and double shrink tubed joint. This code has been a Be-iotch! Thank you for the heads up.

I thought about a Mil Spec heat/ signal shield then the thought passed! Poky braid on these cheap wires... very bad! :-/
