I'm just over 60k since the last full synchromesh change. I was thinking of trying a GL-4 engine lube like many others this time as 3 quarts of synchromesh is almost $30. What would you suggest at around half the cost of synchromesh?

Mr Mojo Risin'

I believe GL-5 will work as well as GL-4. Royal purple has a good reputation and so does valvoline (the racecars use that shit!). I know someone who uses GL-5 in their geo tracker and it works just fine.

That's a penny for 200 miles, not that big an investment. I think your used Synchromesh is better than any regular gear lube (which is going to cost pretty close to the same amount).

I believe ATF is GL4 equivalent.

there was a service bulletin which referred to 75 weight engine oil as a gear oil.

i have used syncromesh for years with great success.

gl5 lubes are purported to be bad for brass synchros.

i'm running mobil1 synthetic gear lube in my red vert. it's more expensive than syncromesh. royal purple is more expensive than mobil1.

atf is cheap.

pay your quarter and take your shot. ;)
