recently grabbed a 1997 3/5 with 249303 miles and a healthy engine...minus a blown out cam seal.
tranny however was a 4speed....1st gear was gone!

i removed the 4.39 and replaced with the 4.12 from my original 92 metro.

when i pulled the tranny from the 92 on the upper back is a tab with a wire on it.
i pulled the 4.39 and put in the 4.12. all is fine except some idle surging (not a vacuum leak, i see the plunger moving back and forth)
checked everything and noticed i didnt have the wire on the clip. searched for hours through the wiring and i cant find it.....(it must be hiding well!)

then i got to thinking about it....i dont remember that wire being there on the 4.39 tranny at all.....i dont remember seeing it, i dont remember removing it, but the clip is on the 4.39 tranny for the wire also. i looked at the clips on both trannys...they look the same.....the 4.39 isnt dirty like its never had a wire, and not semi clean like a wire has been on it....and when i look at the 4.12...the clip also looks about the same.

at first the car had no idle up at all....i had to give it a little gas and hold the idle a few moments....super slow idle. then it changed and had a fast warm up idle with surging while warm.

any ideas from the peanut gallery? :D
