Has anybody else here had experience with it, good or bad? I am assuming it all comes as one piece. . . does it? Lastly, will I need new bolts and some kind of gasket where it attaches to the cat assembly?

Any advice or other words-of-wisdom appreciated. . . I've never done this before, but if it's easy enough to do, I'd like to not have to bring it to a shop.

:whistle

I read the full disclosure and it didn't mention hardware to connect it, so you'll have to assume you'll need to reuse what you have. Or just run to a hardware store and pay the dollar for two bolts with nuts to connect it at the catalytic converter. Then you'll need a U-brace to connect the muffler to the end of the exhaust pipe....another buck and a half at Autozone.

From the looks of it, it appears to have the correct curvature to fit under a Geo, but you won't know until it's on!

Also, one more question. . .

Three or four years ago I had the front section of the exhaust replaced from the manifold back to the exhaust flange downstream of, and including, the catalytic converter. There is a rattling sound coming from the cat. It sounds like shaking a few small pebbles in a soup-can. Oddly enough, the cat-rattling stops if I pull & hold sideways on the pipe between the cat and the resonator.

I have heard that the cat may sometimes expel particles that will clog the muffler. Do I need to remove the cat section and tip it to shake out possible debris before installing the new cat-back exhaust? Or, maybe should I run the car up to operating temp after removing the old cat-back exhaust, and rev it up a bunch of times to blow out the cat before installing the new cat-back exhaust?

Opinions appreciated. . .

I would guess that your original exhaust PAST the catalytic converter is what I call a "two ply" exhaust. Meaning that it has a pipe within a pipe. I had the same problem with my 90 Metro when I took it in for exhaust repair and they removed a significant portion of the exhaust. I don't think the problem is your cat, just the pipe PAST the cat.....if that makes sense.

So if I understand you correctly, it sounds like you are saying that the rattling is coming from the pipe between the resonator and the cat. If so, that will be a home-run because that is part of the new exhaust I ordered!

Just received this exhaust system, and it is all ONE-PIECE. Muffler is not separate. Arrived in a GIANT box!

For the life of me, I can't figure out how your going to get it on without it being in at least 2 pieces. :ermm:
Very curious. :hmm

Here it is. . .

I sure hope there is a straightforward (easy) way to put it on!

That will be pretty easy to get in as 1 piece, just stick it in from the rear of the car, and it should work pretty easy.
I thought you were saying it was one piece from the exhaust manifold all the way back to the muffler.

Do you guys think I'd get a longer lifespan out of it by spraying a couple coats of Hi-Temp paint on it before install?

I believe that is aluminized piping you have purchased. If so, painting is not necessary.

Even so, exhaust systems usually get rust holes from the inside, so painting the outside does no good.

I usually get a can of high temp and paint the outside. Even aluminized rusts. Especially at welded joints and seams. Whatever is left I spray the rest on the inside- especially the muffler.
Then I slosh it around inside. Its pretty cheap insurance I figure considering the cost of the exhaust and the labor of replacement.
Especially if you live in the rust belt

Okay, took off the old exhaust and can't get it out without cutting it! Which means I can't put the new, identical one on since it is one-piece (as seen in the pictures above). . . Thoughts? Suggestions?
