Alright I'm new to the forum, so here I go. So I purchased my metro 1999 1.3 LSI a few years ago and had it 4 days and the transmission went out. So had it rebuilt and drove it for a year and had rod blast threw the block at 118,000 miles. So I purchased a brand new motor from a guy in Florida. I have placed the motor in and it looks nice. I REMOVED the cork gasket and used gold RTV sealant because I now that it would cause issues with the ckp sensor.( Fixed a oil leak on previous motor and learned the hard way by using a gasket.) Anyways the timming is on and everything has been verified by a Ford dealership that spent a week on the car and couldn't find it so recommended me to the Chevy dealer that has had the the car for a MONTH and I went down there today and had a few words with them. They told me a week in it was a bad PCM and I took one to them an had it replaced for cheap. So that wasn't the problem. So they are stumped and told me they can't get the car to stop having a misfire and running the way it was two months ago. Now I guess I'm going to have to keep playing with it myself. So they say it has to do with the CKP sensor. I'm curious if I'm not close enough to the ring the sensor picks up? If it's to far it won't run, and I placed some clay on the sensor and it has about 30 thousands gap. Does anyone know the right distance it should be? Any info would be great? :beer :banghead :news

Ok did they use the bottom crank gear from the engine that was on it from the factory? or was it on the engine when you bought it? There are 2 different lower gears it could be the wrong one.

Are you talking about the reluctor ring? Or the whole crank?

A broken or chipped tooth on the crankshaft gear will cause this also.

Yeah same gear and reluctor ring. Also when I put the motor together the reluctor ring was in good shape. No chips out of the teeth or anything like that. I'm going to be double checking that once I get it back in the garage.

if the problem is related to cam crank sync
or a damaged tooth on a pickup wheel
then you will need a high resolution scope and
this waveform
from your system

this is for a G10 engine
NOT a G13 engine
the G13 will be different but it will have similar things attributes

the relationship between CMP and CKP has a good and bad value
amplitude of each tooth signature should be the same .

here
the waveform is expanded so that you can see the relationship between CKP and CMP
i used ANNOwave to divide things up by 720 degrees

again
this is for a G10 engine
post this waveform from you car , use the best resolution you can
and i can
dissect it to see if it is plausible
it would be better if i had known good car to get a known good waveform from ....

Ford and GM dealer techs do not use scopes
they rely on scandata
and
statistical hits from databases
they do not know what to do with a scope or why they would need to even use a scope
