It always seems like within a week or two of installing a new air filter it starts looking a little dingy. Everything is snug and tight, but the red rock dust they put on the roads here manages to get up in the housing and dirty up the filter this time of year. I typically change it out 12-15k, but I was wondering if anyone uses some sort of prefilter mounted in the large plastic tube leading to the air filter in the housing? Some sort of cloth to catch some of the dust and dirt that makes its way up in there?

Most military trucks use two stage filters and they are a great way to get good filtration an long life when you driving off road. Metro filters are pretty cheap and lets just say they don't exactly have to filter much air to supply 55hp so single stage and frequent replacement is probably best. |

when you place a filter in the induction pipe you create a restriction of flow. installing a second filter creates a bigger pressure drop and decreased air flow. i usually go the other way.
