Hi, I know this is the Metro forum but you all have been a great deal of help in the past with things that could work with other vehicles and I know a lot of members work with autos and trucks other than Geos. I have a bit of an issue with my 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe 4x4 with the 5.7 Liter small block and 203,XXX miles. I had a massive intake manifold leak where the coolant mixed with the oil and have been working on getting the manifold off and cleaned up to replace the gasket. I am having major problems with this though, the engine has the two part composite upper and aluminum lower manifold with the spider injector system under the upper intake. Basically everything I have read tells me not to mess with that unless I want to replace it, which at $300+ I don't, any hints on how to clean the composite upper now that it is separated from the aluminum lower, and any tips on how to clean the aluminum lower better while the injection spider is still attached? I have also found pretty heavy pitting around the coolant passages at the front of the intake and near the bolt holes for the intake itself and I need a little advice on how to handle it. The pits are deep enough to both see and feel, and I personally think are too deep for the gasket to seal on its own, what can I do to fix the pitting and have it be reliable after the fact? I will include pictures of the corrosion at the bottom of the post. The bolt holes in the block for the intake bolts are also somewhat corroded and the bolts themselves are shot, though I did get replacement stainless steel 12-point ones from ARP, does anyone know what the tap sized and thread pitch I would need to clean them out? Additionally does anyone know the torque specs for the ARP bolts as the package did not contain any instructions and the website's link doesn't work. And finally does anyone know how I can clean the oil/antifreeze gunk out of the cylinder heads and lifter valley, as well as cleaning it out of the valve covers themselves, I have both removed to clean them out. I apologize for coming in and asking for such amounts of information on a vehicle that obviously is far and away from what the forum is meant for, but after getting nowhere with multiple forums dedicated to the model itself I figured I would ask the people who have always been helpful and knowledgable about things in the past. Thank you, Scott EDIT: The topic title should read Help with intake manifold GASKET replacement and problems on '99 Tahoe, sorry ![]()
