I looked around and have found one vag coverage on this subject: After I did an engine change in my wifes 97 LSI 1.3L auto. It developed a couple of minor hiccups. The most major one was, it randomly would idle rough at a stop. It would clear up after giving the engine a quick rev. I suspected pieces of carbon was getting caught in the egr, being that everything on the intake side was from the original engine. I pulled the egr off the donor 97 LSI auto engine's manifold. I did cleanup on the egr, pulled the egr off the metro. First thing I notice there was a Mitsubishi looking triangle emblem on the one from the metro where the donor did not. I did some looking at the auto parts sites and notice the pictures of the manual egrs has the emblem where the automatics did not (same numbers). 1. What is the difference between the auto and manual egrs? 2, Does the triangle emblem identifies the egr for a manual transmission? 3. Am I on the right track, that someone installed the wrong egr on the metro prior my to purchase? The engine runs a big noticeably different in a good way after changing the egr. And noted that the egr and ports was not plugged or restricted. This may explain the sluggish acceleration when the engine is not fully warmed up. |

I doubt that the EGR is the culprit at this point, it's not supposed to be doing anything at idle or full throttle. I don't know for sure about the Mitsubishi logo and the auto or manual thing, but I wouldn't count on it. I guess it's possible, but I would think that they got them all from the same source back in the day. |

![]() This is what I installed. ![]() This is what I pulled from the wife's metro w/ auto. Everything I seen so far indicates it is for a 5 speed. Edited by mlillie, Apr 21 2014, 02:02 PM.
