It's above your left foot, but that's not what's wrong with your car. |

I can run a wire to the coil from the battery and engine will start. Next i ran a wire from the switch to coil the fuel pump comes on but will not crank. After the engine starts with both wires on the coil i can remove the wire from battery and it will continue to run with wire from switch. Does this make any sense to anyone? |

what does not make sense is running wires willy nilly to troubleshoot the problem. get a factory service manual and follow the detailed flow chart and bench tests to find your problem. keep doing what you are doing and you may need a new ecu sooner or later.

2 years of electronic technology training, skilled with electrical issues, I concur, get the FSM and trace the problem out in a logical manner. Of course this now means you can tell me I am not being helpful and I should find better things to do with my time. |

Hotodray1 I was in my driveway and the engine shut off. I tried to crank it and the engine was turning over but not cranking. I listened and the fuel pumpo was not running, installed new fuel pump and then the pump would not run. Then i realized that the coil was not getting ant current and the heater fan would not work. The radio was working and the dash lights come on when you turn the key. I then took the ecm out and installed it into another metro just like it and the metro ran great. Nothing wronr with ecm, then i changed the ignition switch at the fuse box nothing changed. I have checked all fuses and changed the relays I can run a wire from the postive battery post to the coil and it cranks up. Then i tried to run a wire from switch to coil and it will not crank. it will run on the switch wire but not crank you have to put battery wire on coil to crank it. I have cleaned all ground wires. took fender off to check for cut wires there are none . changed the fuse box under dash.I have spent a lot of time on this and would appriciate any help i can get Thanks Steve |

Unplug fuse box under dash look at all the conectors and plugs to see if you may have some thing melted or not getting a good conection.Have you tested all the fuses with a test light ? some times the ones under the hood can be blown and it is hard to tell! If this don't help I have to agree with the other two guy's time for a FSM and wiring Diagram and Flow chart. |

sssteve I dont understand why you would flame 2 of our most esteemed members here that know more that most when it comes to these cars. I had not read or reliazed that you had 2 post on this problem. Glen and Richard are right you will need to do a little digging to find the Problem. They were asked as a group what the would recomend and they told you and you did not reply corectly . I do not mind trying to help any one but there are limites to every ones wanting to help. We all understand that it is frustrating and dam well makes people mad when there car gives trouble. We all have our bad days but and I am just as guilty as any one else to typing things when I should not have. But if you want help from the group we have to get along!! That is what makes Geo metro forum different from all the others is we try to have respect for the other members. If this upsets you please pm me I will talk to you not on a open forum people don't want to see or hear of arguments on here! |

It almost looks like I have a similar problem with my 4 cylinder I have changed out both fuse boxes changed the relays checked and cleaned all the grounds tried 2 other ecms. The engine cranks over but no spark or gas.Turning the key should get the fuel pump to prime the system. Something is not telling the ecm to start the car I've tried different ignition switches no luck I took mine to a mechanic I trust he spent 2 hours on it and gave up. If you do find it can you let me know ? Thanks |
