Timing belt on a '05 Honda Odyssey

Has anybody ever replaced the timing belt on a '05 Honda Odyssey with a 3.5L? I just bought one with 100,700 miles on it and the book says change the belt at 105K. Looking at the prices on the parts they vary from $111 on ebay to $250 at Autozone. All parts seem to come from the same manufacturer.

Just wanting to know if there is anything special I should know/get before I crack into this.

I wouldn't worry about the timing belt though. Your transmission is soon to give up at that mileage....those Odysseys weren't know for their transmissions. Much like the later Ford Taurus and Chrysler LHS sub-models

Yea, I saw that video. I just couldn't get past the presenter. His technique behind the camera is too annoying for me. I liked his filming style, but his voice is like fingernails on a chalk board.

I kinda agree with you on the tranny. What I've read is that the Gen3 tranny is not as robust as the Gen4. The Gen4 is from the Ridgeline and has an extra bar(?) in the internals which somehow adds life and durability to the driveline. But I figure if I can get another 100K out of it, I'll have done well. (Plus I got a warranty with my purchase...... :die if it dies in 42 months I will only pay a hundred dollar deductible)

Yea right, huh? :deal

So I'm going to replace the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, and tensioner actuator. Plus I'm going to pull the tranny oil filter and replace it. Dump three quarts of ATF and refill (X3) and the major services should be complete. Crossing my fingers.
