As you can tell, my favorite color is red. But I dont want a red metro. Thats why I am going black with red accents. Eventually when I get as far as paint, I think I may add a little extra flair in it. Not sure what yet, but rest assure it will stand out. |

I painted a stereo bezel red once. It looked pretty good, actually... |

I had about an hour of free time today. I had this can of high temp engine paint. So I painted the valve cover. I took pics before and after, forgot to snap a picture after I cleaned it. I took it off, sprayed it with brake cleaner, then simple green, then scrubbed the hell out of it with a couple Brillo pads, then washed it with dawn dish soap, then sprayed with more brake cleaner, more simple green then did a good rinsing. Let it dry, then wiped it real well. Then I gave her several light coats. Pre-cleaning: ![]() ![]() ------------------------------------ Post-Paint ![]()

Should I lay down a layer or two of high temp engine clear coat? I am considering painting some black pinstripes on the little fins and if I am, I am going to before I do a clear coat |

I noticed something else, actually. At about the same location on the valve cover, but the opposite side, there is a circular indentation? I don't know if it's a trick of the light, but it looks like you didn't get enough coverage in the back-left (as we're looking at it in that picture) area. But wow - that is really going to POP in your engine bay! ![]() And I don't know about the clear coat!

I dont see it. I checked the entire cover and It looks really good and I thought I got pretty good coverage except the area I mentioned. I am going to throw another coat on it tomorrow if its nicer out (its chilly and wet out today) |

Is there anything else in the engine bay they can be painted with this high temp engine paint? I got 3/4 of a can left and might as well paint it up while i have it out and have time |

![]() I've got purple things in my engine bay. Valve cover, coolant pipe, the fan blades, uhh, oh, my timing cover... But other than the coolant pipe, the "high temp" isn't really necessary... (and honestly, I used normal paint on all those parts, not high temp. The only paint that's dying so far is the silver on my radiator fan shroud...) Brake calipers are always a popular option for red paint...

Looking forward to the rebirth of your car. Radio area looks like a beaver was chewing on it. Think I'd have to at least cut out a piece of cardboard, paint it black & mount it in the bezel area. Keep us posted.

Replace, yes. Find a car with unbroken vents, completely remove the dashboard (yes, really), unscrew the vents. Take out YOUR dash and screw the vents in. Then put it back. Although, since you have a 97, you probably have dash cancer, so maybe look for a 98+ dash with good vents, and swap the whole dash. |
