i have searched the forum and i have found several posts that are close to the issue, but not quite. my blinkers wont work, i have replaced the assembly with a junk yard piece i found. the issue has not changed. i found that the fuse for the blinker blows when the ignition is turned to "on" . i took apart the fuse box assembly and it alooks ok, no arc marks and the path are clean. i also checked for broken wires at the plugs into the fuse box as suggested by another happy merto owner. i tried chasing the wire from schematics i found online with no luck. Does anyone have an idea of what to do next?? the wireing is a rats nest, the privious owner self installed a stereo and alarm system .... any help is much apprieciated

There are volt/ ohm meters that are designed to find a short, so you could buy one of those. If not, you are looking for a short to ground. Use the wiring diagram (make sure it is for your car) and find the first connector for the signal lights after the fuse and disconnect it. Put a new fuse in and turn the key on. If the fuse blows, the issue is before that connector. If it doesn't, use a volt/ ohm meter to check each wire for the turn signals in the connector to look for 0 resistance to ground (ohms). When you find the wire, follow it as best you can and look for places where it would be passing through the body of the car. This is the most likely place for the insulation to be rubbed off and the wire shorting to the body. |
