Is there a difference in the length of the 2 door vs the 4 door early 90's Metros? I can't really tell from photos if the front doors are just shorter on the 4 doors or if the car is a bit longer. |

All hatches are within 5 inches in length of each other. All 4 door sedans are about a foot longer than any of the hatches |

Thanks. I figured it had to be longer for the 4 doors. |

GEN2 (89 - 94) cars, the five door hatch is four inches longer than the three door hatch with all the difference in the wheelbase, they're built on a different frame. GEN3 (95 - 01) cars are all built on the longer frame, both hatch and sedan have the same wheelbase but the trunk adds 14.5" to the overall length. Edited by Woodie, May 7 2014, 05:26 AM.

Hmm... ok.. so 89-94, which is what I'll be looking to buy (for 3cyl auto), are fairly close in size among both body types. Not enough difference to disregard a 5 door over a 3 door simply due to size. Which is better for hauling stuff in? I would guess the 5 door since you can get at stuff from the side as well as the rear. |

Groceries, second hand stuff. Anything I'll be able to fit in there basically.. haha. The last 2 cars I had were compact (Corolla, Escort) and at times I would haul really long stuff like large diameter PVC pipe and things, not that I need to anymore since I don't have a house to have to keep up myself. But I'd fold down the rear seats in the Escort (had to manually remove it in the Corolla!) andd hang them out the trunk and part way but mostly in the cabin and trunk.. heh. A 5 door 1st gen metro is an awesome thing. Especially if you have people that are going to ride in the back regularly. The extra weight makes an automatic car even more doggy. |
