Anybody have any experience/thoughts on how to restore these? It is 100% functional and intact just looks ugly.

Wow that is impressive. How long does that last for? Is that a permanent cure? |

I don't know how long it lasts, but I have a set of window cranks that I did about 5 years ago that still look good. There is a science to doing this, and you can ruin parts very easily if you don't keep the heat moving around. If you have the eye and the hand to do this, the parts look near new. |

Ah you mean cranks that looked like this.... ![]() These are my old ones still perfectly functionally just unsightly. I bought new black ones. That is part of the other issue I have with this handle is that my interior on my GTI is black so I'm still not sure it will match if I heat it. However I will see if I can hunt up my heat gun and give it a try. Perhaps I'll practice on the cranks first since they aren't as important. |

I went on eBay and replaced the Window Cranks and the interior Door latches. I also purchased all 4 exterior handles as 1 was broken ... On those I wound up using an internal plastic S lever from the original on the new exterior handle as it fit tighter than the new. They were pretty inexpensive and came in just a couple of days. They are easy to replace! |

Yeah I was mostly just wondering because I had these and I wanted to restore them. Turns out that evmetro was right and heating them takes a deft touch. I ended up ruining all the parts I tried, it did change the color back but unfortunately I also managed to melt and warp them making it pointless. I bought new window cranks a long time ago, and my interior door handles are fully functional as well however they have the stress cracks by the screw which I don't like. I"ll probably just get new ones. |
