I'm thinking of trying some of the new headlight bulbs. Anyone have suggestions for color (they offer yellow, bright white, etc), brand/longevity? -- High Performance Bulbs website warns of cheap Chinese imitations wearing out in a few months. Thanks. |

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Philips-H4-9003-X-treme-Vision-XVS2-One-Pair-Dual-Beam-100-Longer-Headlamps-A2-/371012785006 About the best that you can stuff in a stock setup, and they don't have the crap life that the Silvanias do. I'm sure you can find them for around $25, that's what i got mine for but i lost the link v.v |

These are also very good. somewhat brighter than the Philips and last long as well. http://www.amazon.com/Sylvania-SilverStar-Performance-Halogen-Headlight/dp/B005KDO9C2/ref=sr_1_8?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1399486442&sr=1-8&keywords=h4+bulb PIAA is bright as f[iretru]k but you might need to upgrade the wires XD http://www.amazon.com/PIAA-10926-9006-Intense-White/dp/B000MG630I/ref=sr_1_21?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1399486495&sr=1-21&keywords=h4+bulb Most important: just have headlights =p standard bulbs do fine as well Edited by Reista, May 7 2014, 01:16 PM.

In my experience, the brighter the bulb, the shorter the lifespan. I'd also stay away from the HID kit since most of them are made with a propitiatory HID bulb that can't be gotten anywhere but online and the cops aren't generally willing to wait a week or two for a replacement to show up. If you want the longest life, go for a stock replacement from Sylvania/Osram, Phillips, or GE. I'm ussing the Sylvania silverstar ultra's. The regular silverstars seem to burn out too fast for me but the ultra's have been in my wife's car for 3 years now. Pete |

I put in the Xtravision of these in a corolla I had and they worked great for better night vision in dark rural areas. Less wash out that "whiter" and brighter lights. They will last longer than Silverstars too, plus cost less.

best halogen for me so far has been PIAA ---bright, whiter light. fmvss compliant. but now I run a hid/led setup.............not looking back to halogen any time soon. I have extra bulbs and ballasts for my hid setup if I have any issues. I also have piaa h4 halogens In the glovebox, if the law requires them. |

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?287266-What-is-the-point-of-blinding-other-drivers-with-HID-kits The retrofit kits should be outlawed from even being sold, frankly, and users should be heavily fined. The problem with retrofits is varying quality and poor DIY installs. Edited by Cubey, May 9 2014, 07:10 PM.

Thanks for all suggestions. Being of German descent my immediate reaction was to take fireflyin's advice. However, after ein goot, dahrk beer und a bit uv shnapps I made a list. In gut German tradition I vill buy zem ALL und zee (pun intended) for mein zelf. Again, Dankeschon!! |
