My 1994 geo metro has been sitting for about a year now because when I was driving I could hear/feel when it was about to give out and break the whole thing so I pulled over and had it towed. Now I want to fix it and my dad has actually done a lot of work on it to get it ready to be fixed. He has cut out a new frame horn from a pick n pull and basically finished getting the old rusted one out (the spot welds are holding it on right now and thats it). His plan was to have this guy down the street weld it in for me but we last talked to this guy before the winter and now we can't get a hold of him so I was wondering If a shop would do this for fairly cheap? Me nor my father have experience welding and seeing as how it's going to be in a very crucial place I would feel better about a professional doing the work. |

Good luck getting anyone to hang their hat on that job liability-wise. |

A local shop here at Rochester, NY who has 40 years in the welding business and also did many Geo Metro frame horns said that he would do it for $400 per side. A fellow Geo Metro guy here (PA Frames, Fixer, etc) said he'd do it for a price similar to that. Pricing may be different depending on whether you want them to weld on a frame horn replacement or a patch job. But in reality a proper frame horn job is to completely gut out the inside because of how moisture and dirt has built up in there over the years. Yes, I know, it's expensive.

Getting an underside K brace would be a good idea whoever fixes it. If you are going to attempt I would say you about have to get one so it will hold the lower-horn-half in place at the right spot so you can weld... GL |

It depends on how bad the damage is. I welded mine myself (I am not a great welder) but felt that a small patch job was all I needed. It is pretty hard to get in there while the engine is in place. If the car is worth it to you then I would spend the money to fix it. If the rest of the car is junk then it might be better to spend the $400 on another Metro. |
