noticed the floor under the car seemed a bit rusty this spring. I parked it a couple months ago. I finally got around to looking at how bad it is and if I should proceed to attempt repair number 2 on the driver side floor. also with pics this time. and a pic of my dog just for fun.

Forgot His Manpurse

I'm in the same shoes as yours! I have the same three problem spots and also the transmission side frame has gotten rusted out. It'll require a pretty good welding session! :( It's the cost of doing welding that bugs me, not the repairs themselves.

With your issue, there may be even more rust elsewhere. Check your car out before taking the first step. :(

I am leaning towards its retirement. not for lack of welder or skills, there is a do it yourself repair already rotten out on the drivers front area of the floor pan. the only thing holding was the bondo patch, which came loose with very little persuasion. but I think it will live on in another car somewhere. I recently rebuilt the engine and it was a good running car minus the terribly rotten body. I think I am headed south for a donor body soon. ive always wanted to do a sedan metro with a 3cyl 5speed. I will be on the look out for a 5 speed donor body when I get up the money needed for the trip.

This guy has been trying to sell this thing forever, I bet he'd come down even lower in price. You'd have to apply for a title, but it is a clean 4 door body for your engine. http://chattanooga.craigslist.org/cto/4372525049.html

Good bye

I have worked on an upstate New York truck that made it's way out here, WOW. I am sorry for what you rust belt people have to deal with on a daily basis. I work on company trucks that live at the beach here in Oregon, but it doesn't compare with your salty roads.

I'm glad to read you're leaning towards retiring the car. Your time and effort will go much farther on a body with less rot.

How many miles did you get out of it since our last fix?

I'm not sure of the miles since we repaired the driver side, but I think it's been at least 3 ohio winters since then. And I think 3 geopalooza's and a geo's on the gulf. For a car that we paid $600 for I'd say we way got our money's worth. And that grey metro looks sweet. I've already did a auto to manual swap, just the title scares me. I've been burned on a title before, and I'm outta state.

I also currently work at a salvage yard, and have seen rusted crap cars less than 10 years old. Usually very neglected stuff. Trucks are worst, guess it's because a lot of people drive a truck in winter around here. I almost thought of using this as my yard car for a while at work, but it's just too small. Can't haul a caddy hood in a metro without cutting the roof off first. Lol
