I have a 2001 Chevrolet metro LSI and the radio is shot so I was able to find a really nice factory radio from the junkyard, however the radio is from a 1996 geo metro. The plug is different however not really a big deal. So my question is can the 96 radio work in the 01 if I splice in the 96 pigtail into the 01 harness. I have two diagrams for radio wiring, for the 2001
http://www.justanswer.com/chevy/35cg5-need-stereo-wire-diagram-2001-chevy-metro.html
and for a 94 (four posts down)
http://geometroforum.com/topic/2746512/1/
From my research the wires go to the same place for both the 96 and 01 except the 2001 has "Park Lamp Input" what is this? and the polarity for the left side front speaker is different, orange is lh front speaker negative - and orange/black is lh front speaker positive+ on the 2001 according to the diagram, it is the exact opposite for the 96 wiring diagram. is this correct?
If anyone can confirm my research I would really appreciate it!

I'd like to recommend that you build an adapter harness that is unpluggable; please don't cut the factory harness! They give you that connector for a reason! :'(

If you want to buy new parts, get these:
1996 "Reverse harness": http://www.ebay.com/itm/400161886240
2000-2001 Aftermarket stereo harness: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331018806483

And connect them together. Wire colors should be the same on them, too. And then, if you want to change your stereo in the future... it's REMOVABLE. EASILY.

Thank you for this awesome information and the time you spent posting for me! I will take your advice and make an adapter harness that plugs in.

Excellent! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions... ^o)
I would also like to recommend soldering and heat shrinking the wires, not crimping.

Oh! :smackface
Sorry, I forgot to tell you about that!
You just need an adapter. It's easy!
Your car has a Mini Motorola plug.
The stereo has a standard Motorola plug.

So, you need a mini-to-standard Motorola plug adapter! :)

Disclaimer: I haven't bought either of those items... but I THINK they are the correct type.

Some radio shacks have them. Not all. If you live near an carcsudio place or best buy they nirmally have them also. Would be faster then ebay if you want it now.
