I have a 2000 chevy metro lsi. Was troubleshooting my radio switched 12volts this weekend and dropped my under dash fusebox to look at everything. Didn't see any burned out connectors so I reinstalled fusebox. Magically started getting 12volts and my radio now works. However, I found out this morning my blinkers aren't working, nor the hazards. Just checked all my fuses and they are good. Does the blinkers fun off the hazard fuse? Because I don't see a fuse location for turn signals. Is there a drawing that shows which fusebox connector goes to the blinkers that will aid me in troubleshooting this? Thx. |

Check the flasher relay on the top of the fuse box. Maybe you bumped it loose while you had the fuse box down. |

There is a plug on my '94 that goes from the blinkers to the fuse box. You may have knocked it off. Mine is kind of loose and when the weather gets really cold the plastic shrinks a bit and the blinkers stop working (took me two years to diagnose this). |

there is a fuse on the back of the fusebox? I didn't see one, but I could check again. Also, I haven't had this car very long...are the blinker lights outside of the headlights or inside? |

Not on the back of the fuse panel but the fuse labeled back in the fuse panel.

OK, all my fuses are good. I just replaced the hazard/turn signal flasher. Still nothing, no hazard or turn signals. which connector on the fuse block has the turn signal wires on it? I'd like to trace the 12volt and ground to the blinker switch. I can't find a wiring diagram online. |

I just diagnosed a bad turn signal switch and rebuilt one working switch pod from two units. I think the circuitry on one of the boards is simply bad. Can this be rebuilt as a spare as these things are expensive? How often do they go out? The sad part is that a good one went up in a car fire in a parts car. Conor |

OK, i just mapped out the wiring between fuses and connectors on the fuse block. Why is there 2 flashers on the back of the fuse block? The Haynes wiring diagram only shows one turn/hazard flasher. I swapped out the 3-pronged square one, I think I should have swapped out the rectangular shaped 4 pronged one instead. Could someone clue me in? Thx |

The best clue I can offer is to hide the Haynes (or cut out the pictures, since that seems to be the most useful thing it has) and buy a Factory Service Manual for your car. They come up on EBAY fairly frequently, sometimes for a really good price. It will have much better information and the correct wiring diagram for your car. |

Yes, I almost bought the service manual on ebay yesterday for $50. I didn't want to wait for it. Last night, I took the fuse block apart and mapped out the fuses to connector pins. Now I'll be able to see what color wire is going where. I might be able to troubleshoot it some on saturday with a portion of the wiring diagram i found on justanswer.com too. Geez , its only a few wires! Also, I will buy the other flasher and try that first. Thx |

The manuals get down to $20 or $30 sometimes so it might pay to keep looking. |

yea, there's a 1999 version for $15 right now. Do you think there much difference between 99 and 2000? |

I fixed it. It was a bad hazard flasher. The first one I got from Autozone last week had some nub/tit on it and it wouldn't fit into the socket, so I went back inside and asked if there was another one I could try. I got another one that plugged in but didn't work. I kept it because I still needed to go home and see if there was 12v to the socket and the wiring was good. Over the weekend, I wasn't getting anywhere and I read another post that said make sure you get the right flasher, it should be $40. Another post showed taking apart the flasher and cleaning the contacts. So I took apart my old flasher and seen it was electronic and the new flasher was electric with contacts. So today with flasher being suspected, I jumpered the socket connection to bypass the flasher and was able to see turn signal and hazard lights come on which proved the flasher wasn't working. So I went back to the store and got a flasher and made sure it wasn't the same one I just bought. Went to put it in and couldn't, finally remembered about the first one I bought, cut off the tab/tit on it, installed it and it worked. What a waste of week! Well, I did learn all about the fuse block and I taped up all the loose bare wires and I have extra fuses now in the glovebox. So if something happens in the middle of the night, I will be better prepared to handle it. Thanks for all the help. |
