Rebuilding/repairing turn signal switch???; Possible or not?

I luckily had a spare turn signal switch to test in the new 1992. This was definitely the culprit for the non-functional signals. I couldn't get them to work for either direction. One of the stalks was busted so I took both switches apart and did a swap.

These things are pricey enough that it would be rebuilding the old one. Is this possible? Has anyone done it and what is the usual problem? I am guessing that the circuitry itself has failed. I removed the protective vinyl cover on the wire bundle and inspected the wiring and connectors. Nothing was wrong there.

Did you tug pretty good on the wires coming out of the plug? The vinyl can hide the break.

I completely REMOVED the vinyl by cutting it off so all the wires were visible.

I just wanted everyone to know that I dis-assembled and cleaned my wiper/headlight switches. I applied dielectric grease and re-assembled. The problems with the switches were no more. Again, this was quite simple like most other things on a Metro.

This is definitely worth trying before replacing the switch. I looked at the prices and they were pretty high.
