finding the fuse for radiator fan

hi folks,

having a hard time finding the 30A fuse that is supposedly on the "left of firewall".

i have tracked the problem to the relay -- it switches, but isn't getting power from the "always on" 30A fuse.

btw, i am suspicious about what precise kind of geo i have. newly acquired, plate on drivers door says 4/92, no xfi or anything on body, but: 1) fan thermo switch was wrong size, found correct size at napa under "91 canadian" or maybe xfi or something; 2) the thermo sensor/switch config on the engine looks different than pics i've seen; 3) the wires coming out of the relay are right except for the one going to the fuse, which looks like white-blue, not white-grn according to schematic; 4) for the heck of me i can't find anything resembling fuses on the "left side of firewall".

there ARE fuses on the left fender engine bay: 60, 50, 40, and 30A in big square size, plus a regular 15A. the 15A is labeled FI, but the rest aren't labeled. the 30A did not have a fuse in it, but putting the working 40A in its place doesn't help.

so, basic question: where is the "left side of firewall" where the 30A radiator fuse is supposed to be?

what kind of car do i have? has the engine been swapped? is it canadian, eh?

help greatly appreciated. i've looked thru the forums, but forgive me if i missed something.

UPDATE: oh, it IS canadian! i just realized it says "canada" next to the manufacturers name on the spec plate. and the VIN begins "2C1". whoops. where do i find info on canadian vs. regular versions of our cars? tnx! :news

again, the main question: where is the rad fan fuse *supposed* to be, so i confirm or deny that i have it?

Canadian is the "regular" version of our cars, they were all made by CAMI automotive in Canada except for the convertibles which were made in Japan.

So if I interpret your issue correctly your radiator fan is not working?

By the way our cars work backwards electrically - power is always on and the ground switches...

The fuse box you are looking for is located above the steering column under the dash.

The fuse in that fuse box you are looking for is fuse #6

Here is the "how to" that you were looking for and could not find.---(all about fuses and fuse boxes incuding pics):

Under the dash not in the main panel. There is a 15a fuse in a little 2 fuse add on panel behind the main box. How do I know one would ask? Multiple hrs chasing down an overheat to a blown fuse. Lol good luck.

Yes! Thanks for the correction. Little box behind the main box. Still fuse #6 in reference to the pic in the "how to" I referenced.

thanks everyone! appreciate the responses.

i've been working off the following wiring diagram (see pg 3): http://swift.crime.one.pl/pliki/schematy/suzuki_swift_1992.pdf

yes, the radiator fan wasn't coming on. i currently have the problem temporarily solved, by jumping the white-blue (in the diagram white-grn) wire from the relay directly to battery +. as you can see, there are two fuses involved -- the ignition fuse, #6 in the under-dash fuse box, which controls a bunch of things which are all working (and the fuse is fine), and the 30A "radiator fan fuse (left side of firewall)". it's the second one i'm looking for.

the little add-on box behind the main box sounds promising, since i haven't seen any such thing in hours of completely removing the panel and replacing it. is it attached? are the fuses normal size ones? etc. i haven't seen anything like that. and why is it a 15A fuse when the schematic says 30A?

is "left side of firewall" on the engine bay side, or the inside-the-car side?

pics overwhelmingly gratefully received. thanks again!

ps: thanks for the clarification that most of our cars were made in canada. still, i've seen references to "canadian" vs. u.s. geos on these forums, and the napa guy charged me $10 extra for the "canadian" part, which fit when the regular one didn't. so i'm confused... :hmm

The fuse in the two position add on at the rear of the under dash fuse panel (Fuse Box 1) in my car is a 30 amp fuse. It has white/blue wire which according to the 94 FSM is the fuse for the coolant fan. See page 8A-31-0 at this link to the 94 FSM in our manuals section of the forum. 94 FSM coolant fan electrical
