Crash Test Dummy

Hello everyone, I've driven my 1991 LSI into the ground, and the frame has finally had enough. The beast will still drive, but it's sure as hell not safe. Although the idea of taking the engine and putting it into a buggy or another chassis is tempting, I need a reliable vehicle to take me to and from school. Right now, my only mode of transportation is my motorcycle. Being rational, I'm heavily considering parting it out as I had replaced both front control arms, struts, drive shafts, tie rods, brakes (front calipers stick a bit) and wheel bearings about 6 months ago. Alternator, and water pump, have also been replaced in the last year. If there is a lot of interest in buying parts via the forum instead of sleasbay, I will deal with forum members instead. When I can borrow a camera, I will take some pictures. So before that time comes, how does this type of thing usually work? Making a list of what I have, listing a price, then first come first serve? |

well, heres what i would do: i would list what you have and a decent price for what you have and go from there. if shipping is a problem with the bigger parts talk it over with the buyer and see what comes up. there are alot of nice people on here, this is one of the best if not the best forum ive ever been on, only one other forum had such nice people and that was a forum about indoor train layouts. the geo metro forum is a top tier forum. give it a try you wont be sorry. alot of the people on here go out of there way literally or physically to help ya out. give it a try redline |

Sounds like a plan to me. If it were me, I'd give forum members first crack at it but not too long before I'd move on to craigslist and ebay. |

Okay, I think I'll go with your suggestion Punkozuna, and I have been a lurker for a long time. Many of the repairs I did came from tutorials on this website :D. And yes Redline, that theme does seem to reappear here quite often. I'll post some pictures as soon as possible. Thanks guys. |

If you're wanting to sell the parts I'd be interested in the control arms possibly. |

Go ahead, post whatever parts you're selling. You may or may not post a price, although we'd like for you to post the prices so we can see if it's fair. Let us know if you're firm or negotiable. We'll PM you and discuss!

Dial up BEWARE!! Maybe I should have cropped these first? Ohh well. Passenger Spoiler: click to toggle Rear Spoiler: click to toggle Driver Spoiler: click to toggle Front Spoiler: click to toggle Interior Spoiler: click to toggle Engine1 Spoiler: click to toggle Engine2 Spoiler: click to toggle Engine3 Spoiler: click to toggle That's all for tonight, the floorboard has holes in it, and is pretty well attached to the frame anyway. All body panels in good shape. Both window cranks recently replaced, nice glass in both doors. Have receipts for NEW suspension / drive-train / steering components (less than 12 months old). Everything else works (I lied, the only things that don't work are the hatchback latch and the manual door locks, it would never want to close back up and I never put anything valuable in there). This was a daily driver until the frame broke. I'll run a compression test on engine later, but I bought it rebuilt at 120,000. The chassis has about 198,000 on it. I also have 2 snow tires (mounted) and 4 tires with plenty of tread left. Still testing the waters, I'll make up a price list as soon as possible. I'm not completely opposed to letting the car go whole for the right price. The worst I can say is No. |

You might try to find another Metro of the same era, even if the engine or transmission is bad but the body is ok. You can swap parts over and make use of your good parts yourself. The suspension always seems to be worn out on these when you get them used so you can probably count on using that too. Conor |

It's seeming that to be the most cost effective route at this point. I had figured more people would want parts :P. Are most of the parts interchangeable between swift and metro? |

question: can the 3 cylinder block from a 91 be used in a 94 with updated emission? if so how much plus shipping for the block? can get them hella cheap at the junkyard when they are in stock... |

I'm not sure about the interchangeability of the engines with the model years. Are you asking because you're interested in buying it?? I could do slightly better than ebay if you really want it, but have no idea how much that would cost to ship. But I'm leaning more towards moving my parts to another Geo chassis since there wasn't a whole lot of interest in the parts. My goal was to make enough money to buy another running vehicle, but it would seem thats not going to work out the way I had planned. Mid as well keep what I know is (at least moderately) well maintained than to pick up someone elses problem. |

I found another metro chassis hanging out. Are parts interchangeable between my 1991 LSI and a 1993 XFI? |

Yes, as long as it's the same body configuration. Engine configuration stuff needs to stay with the ecu. |

I still have this vehicle and would like to sell parts from it before it makes the long haul to a junkyard. I am taking parts off for myself as I need them, so far I have removed the fuel tank, the rear shocks, and will remove the drive shafts, front calipers, and front shocks. If you want any other parts, message me an offer and a zip code, you pay shipping. |
