Looks good, but I don't think it is dense enough to offer any sound deadening. The old insulation was more about noise and temperature than about comfy soft carpet. To reduce sound, think density. You can always add the comfy foam on top.

i thought about that, its twice as thick as the old stuff and about half as dense (approx.) i think it should be close. i plan on custom carpet over the old since im going black. so that will help too. this is my metro for life, so i'll live with whatever sub-issues i create and call them design modifications

Yes, I painted my dash in place. Remove what you can, clean it really well, wipe down with a prep solution or something that will remove wax and oils, CAREFULLY mask everything you don't want painted, and paint with something made for plastics or interior parts. I used duplicolor brand vinyl and interior paint to good effect. It will chip if hit right, but it has been pretty durable. You can check pics in my project thread linked in my sig. |

What's that thing behind the coffee can and next to the paper towel roll? What? They used to call those wheelwells? Never seen such a thing. ![]() Edited by Woodie, May 30 2014, 05:07 AM.

If you don't have a puller and your steering wheel is reluctant, it's no big deal to pull the whole column. You can do the job with 1 12mm wrench! Gives you great access to the rest of the dash, too. |

Not on a 95+, the two bolts that hold the steering column at the front up are a T40. Not sure about the rears, never messed with 'em. And faygoninja, you don't need a wheel puller. 17mm socket to take off the nut, once it's off, rock the wheel side to side and top to bottom. Don't hit yourself in the face when it comes off! If you have any questions, ask 'em, and I'll be happy to provide assistance where I can!

Watch for over-spray and which way the wind is blowing so it doesn't deposit little spots on everything. |

![]() Yes the wheel has to come off, no you don't need a steering wheel wheel puller. You can paint the dash in place, but it is MUCH, MUCH easier to pull it. With that much water damage, you are asking for trouble by not pulling it and checking everything behind it. There is a foam mat IIRC attached to the firewall. It may be soaked. |

already checked that mat had to tear the insulation off of most of the back of it. but havnt taken it all out yet. can i put the wheel back on easily? this is my DD after all and i need it operational. i can use torque for gauges. my biggest fear is that my car isnt going to be put together for a long time. if i have it out, ill want to do all the crazy things i see you guys do. led dash light, insulating the climate control tubes. painting(dying) everything.....ugh what have you guys done to me!!!!!?????? |

Yes, just line up the splines and you're good to go! I'd like to recommend that you make sure your wheels are straight before you take the wheel off. |
