my Metro came with an ignition kill switch. i must turn on the windshield wipers prior to starting the engine. it was like this when the previous owner got it. recently(yesterday) it as given me some trouble... an unwillingness to start right away. when it does give me trouble, it makes a faint click sound under the hood. like the starter may be trying to engage... i may need a new starter. the car has 219,000 miles so it may be time for that... any insight is appreciated!

I would get rid of the kill switch. Sometimes adding bells and whistles to a daily driver is a recipe for disaster. I had one of those battery disconnects (kills the power at the battery when you twist a knob) on my race car. I had a ton of problems with the car not wanting to start and traced it down to that very simple switch. It was really nothing more than a big screw with some insulation on it but for whatever reason it just did not work all the time.

i would like to remove the switch, but i wouldnt know where to begin as it was performed 3 owners ago. its likely been installed over 10 years ago.

Start with a factory service manual and use the wiring diagram to remove everything not on the car when it was new. Solder any cut wires back together and cover with heat shrink.
