Purchased my 1997 Geo Metro (1.0L 3-cyl. 5-speed Manual) from a govdeals.com. Problem: Car doesn't crank and I don't hear a clicking noise from the starter. Other Symptoms: Interior and exterior lights, air etc. seem to be working fine. Battery is new. Car runs well when jumped. Car has been sitting in a barn since 2008 I decided to replace the battery since car wasn't able to turnover. Now that I've replaced the battery, though, nothing has changed. The lights work and the air blows but I still don't hear anything coming from under the hood. The wire running from the starter to the positive lead on the battery seems to be fine (voltmeter shows ~12.6 volts). From all I've read on forums and such, the problem appears to be with the starter solenoid. The strange thing to me is that I am still able to jump the car. Any suggestion?? Thanks |

yay! X2 To anybody out there with starting issues, its true!! Check all connections 1st! The little wire on the starter solenoid is very important!! Grounds, beef them up! There is no overkill on this one. Any and all corrosion should be eliminated from any wire. Use dielectric grease after connections are tightened. Make electrical tape your best friend. Ditch the factory battery terminals for some nice and heavy lead ones. idk, my 2 cents. |
