so ive got the 99 base metro now, 4.39 trans (according to VIN lookup) makes sense because its a base with a 3cyl....no tach but its got literally THE most annoying shift light ever. i dont want to do the electrical tape fix because this car is actually nice and i want to do everything right. anyways my problem with the light is that it pops on when i dont care to see it really (night time 3rd shift work schedule too). i do a lot of hilly and around town style driving and the light is not at all configured for it, besides ive been using torque and the vacuum gauge there for my shift points so the light is literally useless. any easy way to disable it? if not ill be pulling the dash apart to get the bulb out.....advice? :P

I do not even notice the light anymore.
Give it some time and neither will you.

Yes, it can be an annoying light.

It is controlled by the ECM based on a variety of factors over which humans have little input.

If you want the light out, the only practical way is to disconnect it.

if you take out the cluster you can just pull the bulb out, i've done this with all 3 of mine and it doesn't hurt anything not having a bulb there
