Tried to install the bulb on this HID kit but the locking ring that holds the bulb in place does not fit over the back side of the bulb. How am I suppose to keep the bulb in place? The light does fit in the headlight housing and its the right kit for bulb 9004. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by shaft, May 31 2014, 04:15 PM.

there has to be an issue some where with the fit. is the retainer with the kit or the car? same with the bulbs kit or car? maybe a bad kit for your car. if not possibly the wrong bulb for your exact model. did someone do a headlight conversion already? |

These composite headlights are from a metro convertible -- so the locking rings are original to the lights. Like I said the kit is for bulb 9004 (metro) and the kit is labled as such. |

Per sylvania.com its only 9004 type bulb for the composite lights. https://www.sylvania.com/en-us/applications/automotive-lighting-systems/Pages/lrgmain.aspx#fldYear Edited by shaft, May 31 2014, 09:39 PM.

i see. you have the right one. it just seems to me that someone would have had the same problem at some point. i'm on sealed beams so im not much actual help. do you know what model bulb was in it before the hid? is it the same? i'll look around and see if i can find anything helpful |

Just looking at it in the pic it looks like you will have to make room for it to fit through without removing so much it can't lock the bulb in. |

not a bad idea if you have a dremel and the old bulbs to go off as a guide. that might be the most cost effective option. |

Hard to tell from looking but can't you just remove the bulb (like you were changing it if it were burnt out) put the retainer on behind the bulb and then connect the bulb back to the harness? It looks like you have the retainer too far back behind the assembly. Edited by Way, Jun 1 2014, 10:40 AM.

I don't see a place where that bulb would come out and take the flange with it. I initially thought it would be possible to remove the electrical off the back and make enough room for the lock ring to work over, but there is just as much stuff in the way behind the seam. It clearly is not designed to work with that type of lock ring. |

Exactly my thoughts Metromightymouse. The piece behind the bulb where the harness attaches to is just too big for the locking ring to pass thru. I just don't see how this would work. I will be returning this to Amazon. Thank you for everybody's help. |

Just out of curiosity, that bulb is replaceable isn't it? Where does it come apart from the harness? |

I dont think it is. Theres a warning label that said not to take apart the harness. |

Wow, good to know. Thanks shaft. I don't know how often HIDs burn out but seems like being able to replace one would be kind of important. |

One of the advantages of HID is the long life of the bulbs. In this instance you would replace the assembly. |
