No temp on gage; 1995 geo

My 95 project car is now on the road after five years of storage. Everything seems in order but I am not reading any temperature on the Gage. I replaced the thermostat as well as the ect on the housing and it is still dead. I looked in the service manual and the same power that feeds the tach (working) feeds the temp gage. Also all the lights on the cluster are to function.

Special note: The PO installed blinky lights on the front and rear for fire duty. I found some big time chard red wires under the dash. I believe this issue has been corrected.

At this point do I point the finger at the gage or am I missing something?
The car just passed the E-check so I have to believe the operating temp is normal.
Thanks

The temp gauge sending unit is on the passenger side of the car in the intake manifold right above the alternator. One wire. Remove it, clean it and put it back. If it works fine, if not, remove the wire and ground it to a good ground and turn the switch on and see if the gauge goes to hot. If it does then suspect a bad coolant temp sending unit.

Thanks, I remember hooking that wire up when I installed the motor, A lifting strap may have broke it.
