Evaporator solenoid?

Hope this is posted to the correct spot here? Anyway I have the infamous intermittent loud ticking coming from the solenoid. I have done the searching which is how I found that the tick is the solenoid and not a valve tick. Does anyone know it a new solenoid will still tick? Is the tick normal? If I could feel reasonably curtain that a new solenoid would not tick I would pop for the 89.00 one from Oreillys just to not have to listen to that darn tapping tick? DO NOT want to replace with new and still have the tickitytap. Any input greatly appreciated.

Mine is really quite loud! I can hear it come and go when sitting at a stop light. It bothers me sure or I would not be asking the question. I read several posts that pretty much said its normal and shows that its working properly. Read another and it said that the ticking means its cycling too often. Guess I am looking for someone who has replaced a ticking solenoid with new and if the ticking stopped or not?

The clicking noise may be normal and caused by a rubber isolator mount for the purge valve may be damaged or missing and the purge valve is just telegraphing the noise to whatever it is mounted on.

Might want to check the mounting bracket

the purge valve is just a valve
it may operate more often if flow is restricted
or
if the evap vent valve is clogged
or
if MR 02 sensor does not show a change when purge is active

early systems were noisier than later systems because of mounting / damping issues as mentioned above

do not replace the purge valve
VW N80 valves (purge valves) have a small screen which cloggs as carbon from the canister migrates up the purge line
i just remove the screen to resolve many evap flow issues
others replace the N80 valve
but it will clogg the screen again in 10k miles or less

Finally got around to pulling a evap solenoid from the local pick and pull off a 180,000 97 1.0 and now I have NO TIC, TIC, TIC! Oh so nice to have the noise gone! Had it on for over a week now and no tic so great I like! I love the pick your own parts places! Got a blower motor and good resistor off the same car so now I have all fan speeds and no intermittent LOUD scream from the blower. Good, good!

Well must say I am a little disappointed. Just did my fill up and miles calculations the same as I have over the last year and got 250 out of 6.5 gallon of gas. 38 mpg! Never drove over 60 mph the whole time and did the same work route I always do. Over many, many tanks and calculations over the last year I always got right around 44mpg and that was driving 70mph on hwy5 between Red bluff and Redding California once every fill up. OK I POSTED THIS UNDER THE WRONG TREAD I rewrite where it should be. :smackface
