just throwing this out there, did you make sure your front tires were balanced? had a bad shake once on my work truck, there were tire weights missing on pass front, made the whole truck shake badly, moved the fronts to the rear and it went away, i bought new tires, might work for ya maybe??

The shake/thumping noise is only under throttle, the Car has been as fast as 75mph without issue. It's only as I'm getting on it that this symptom happens, which is why it is puzzling.

Nope, they are shifter cables and clear to the transmission

Also to touch on the balancing tire issue, I put on two different sets of wheels and tires, both balanced, and the shake didn't change.

Hey guys, it's been a long time with me not posting. Just doing an update. I have made ZERO progress on the car in the last 3 months. I did do a bunch of trouble shooting and fixed some things, but none were the shaking/knocking culprit.

My plan is to start making braces for the engine bay. I feel with the extra torque and weight of the engine and tranny, that I am bowing out the frame rails, if you can even call them that.... I am going to try to get back to,work on it this weekend, to see if I can't make some progress on it and actually get this car driving normal!

Yup, overtime just got cancelled, and I'm leaving work in 15 minutes to go buy the steel I need. I'm thinking of making a strut tower bar out of 3/8" plate and 3x1.41x.17 c channel steel. May make the lower brace from the same materials.

Well, I abandoned the idea of using the 3" C channel and 3/8" plate, because while it sounded nice and beefy, reality is it was way too big for the strut brace. So instead I used some 3/16 plate and some 1.25" thick pipe. Hood will be really close to touching, might have to trim some of it. Primer is on and paint is next, then I'll post pictures of how I did it....

I started off by making a cardboard cutout, and dimpled the strut studs into the cardboard for location

Then I marked the two 6" pieces of 3/16 plate with the arch

Then I used the cardboard to transfer drill the two strut mount holes.

Then I cut the 1.25" tube to 39.25" length with my handy harbor freight 6" chop saw.... and I also ground down two flats to mate the angled surface of the plates to the tube.

Then I tack welded both ends, with a little weight on the bar and the plates mounted....

Then it got primer and paint, two coats of each....

And that's it! I'll post pics of it installed after a bit. Materials cost me nothing for this because it was left over, but they cost me less than $20 when I bought the pipe and plate earlier in the year. I spent $33 on the 3/8" plate and 3×1.41×.17" C channel today though, and that will mostly make up the lower brace I believe.

Well, today I started the lower brace. This one will take a little longer to build. It will be made of roughly the same material as the top brace, but will consist of smaller sections of pipe welded together to go up and over the transfer case. Here are some pics of what has happened so far.

I started by cutting plates and drilling holes to match the a-arm mounting holes, then putting them up in location to see what angle I needed to start the pipe at.

From there I welded up the starter pipes at the angles needed, and bolted up the passenger one. I will start on this side and work my way over to the drivers side. Hopefully I can finish the angles and weld the pieces together tomorrow.

there are quite a lot of mounting points under the car, the 2 bolts your using, the bolt spots where the sway bar mounts and even the large nuts that hold the arm on.... possible 6 point brace?
