When I purchased this car I noticed one of the side tonneau covers had been repaired. Being new to a convertible I quickly found out how it became broken in the first place. These have to be folded way out of the way when lifting or lowering the top. If not, pop, and the cover is off. My daughter quickly figured out how to break the second one. What is the best way to reinsert the metal bracket into the vacuum formed plastic covers? Getting the metal flanges of the bracket to tuck in under the plastic opening kind of sucks. Recommendation for a good adhesive for this during repair? |

Just my $.02, drill some new holes in the metal plate...screw in some "short" coarse thread sheet metal self tapping screws and apply 3M trim adhesive (black not yellow for appearances only) to the threads and some to the top of the metal plate to become sandwiched when tightening down the metal plate to the plastic tonneau cover...

Meaning...getting the metal brackets to recess completely back into the pockets is overkill? I have some of the 3M trim adhesive. Edited by doviatt, Jun 8 2014, 12:14 AM.

Quick update. This worked out very well. One thing I will add for future readers is to go with flat head sheet metal screws (I used #8-3/8) and countersink the metal brackets. I initially bought pan head. I realized just before drilling the holes that the metal plates will need to sit flush to the metal pivot arms in the car.So I went and got the flat head screws and a countersink bit. The adhesive is drying now....I'll install them tomorrow and see how it works out. ...and thanks again for the help!
