'96 Metro UltraGauge stays on
Topic Started: Jun 9 2014, 04:59 AM (445 Views)

The UltraGauge connected to the OBD2 port stays on when the ignition is off. The battery was getting discharged. Is there a problem with the ignition switch ? I didn't notice this until I went out to the Metro to get something at night and noticed that the UltraGauge was still lit.

It is drawing power. I bought something like that that I used with the Torque App in my 98 and I left it in for a few days then one night I noticed a small red light on under the dash. Sure enough it was on and drawing from the battery. So, unless you have a very good battery, or drive your car every day, I would suggest that you disconnect it when you park your car.

I think it needs an alternator. The battery tested okay, the alternator is not outputting enough. A couple weeks ago the belt stopped squealing, the alternator probably isn't drawing a load.

I have a 96 and when the key is turned off the power to the OBDii connection under the dash should shut off. You have a wiring issue or someone has ran battery voltage to it. Back track your wiring. Pull the fuse for that circuit and see if it stays on.
