Oh and one other thing I noticed. There is a thin wire coming from a small box (ballast resistor?) near the ignition coil that isn't plugged in to anything. It has a spade terminal end. I don't see anything around that it could plug into. (There is also a second thin wire coming from that box that goes to ground.) If I get a chance I'll take a pic of it and post it. Anyone have an idea where this should go? thanks! |

Read your post as if someone was asking you the question. Hint: year? engine? and a picture would be great. Welcome to the party.

2 wires from a 3/4" x 3/4" x 1/4" black monolith? one wire goes to ground? that would be a diode, part of the electrical noise suppression on the chassis. the other end should be connected to the + side of the coil. the diode shunts voltage spikes induced into the electrical system when the magnetic field collapses to fire the coil. there's another similarly sized black monolithic component that has 3 wires. that is a different type of electrical noise suppressor that picks off a signal for the ecu and tachometer. that should be taped up in the wire loom and clipped to the driver's side strut tower by the brake master cylinder. i've seen a bunch of metros with that diode disconnected. they don't seem to run bad like that.

[IMG] [/IMG]Yeah that was dumb! It's a 1990 5 door with 1.0L G10 all stock as far as I know (OD 151,xxx).Anyway it looks like one wire goes to the diode box from the loom and the other goes from the diode box to (currently) nowhere. There are already two wires attached to the coil so I don't see anywhere to attach it there .

here is the ignition system wiring on a 97 1.0 if it will help you any fsm wiring ignition 97 1.0 to the PCM maybe? no that doesnt seem right.... Edited by faygoninja, Jun 10 2014, 12:38 AM.

Firewall or any ground, but from the factory there is a male end attachment point built in to the battery cable hold down bracket on top of the transmission. |

Remember your diagram for #7 which is the noise suppressor filter shows 3 wires, 1 to pcm 1 to ignition control module / ignition coil 1 to ground which could be the screw post that holds that black box to the coil as shown in the photo. How big is #14 the noise suppressor condenser? That only has 2 wires. 1 to ground 1 to ignition coil (or ignition switch) Edited by scubaman, Jun 10 2014, 07:21 AM.

ok. It did occur to me that there might have beeen something on the trans that is no longer there due to the trans having been replaced by what I deduced is a reman. So in that case I just need to attach it to a ground then. |

That wire is loose on mine as well, can't wait to see where it should be connected. |

Well, looks like mine is grounded to the wire above the transmission, the other end of mine is disconnected. There's also another one of those with both leads connected to that wire harness and it does not have a mounting hole. Wonderful. Looks like the connector in your picture should definitely go to the wire harness above the tranny. You should see a little metal tab poking out from the heat shielding.
