speedometer starting to get sticky??

So I'm driving down the road and when I accelerate sometimes my speedometer hangs at one spot for a little bit and then quickly catches up to the correct speed. Usually around 45 mph and then it jumps to 50-55, depending on how fast I am accelerating.

Is there a way of lubeing up some cable or something to get this to stop? I am worried that my speedometer is going to just stop at 45 one day and just stay there and I would love to prevent that if possible.

Just my $.02...really don,t think lubing the cable is going to help...a sticky cable would cause noisy speedo or a lot of needle bounce...I would suggest trying to repair/inspect/replace the speedo cluster... :type

That is an odd issue. I would suspect the poll that the needle moves on is hanging. Not the cable itself. When my cable started getting sticky it would be most noticeable at lower speeds, the needle would bounce and as I increased in speed it would smooth out. I would take apart the cluster and have a look at that. Be careful though as these speedos have calibration arms for spring tension on the needle poll.
