Can back plastic only be had or fixed on a 1992 vert? The top is fine, just ripped plastic middle. I need to know in consideration of buying the car for a friend. Trying to add up all little things to make sure and account for total comittment. Thanks in advance for any comment.....

Yes.
I looked into this as I had the same trouble with my vert. Top was great. Plastic window was hazy and cracked.
There are some places that do custom boat and car covers that specialize in sewing canvas and vinyl. They can sew in a new vinyl window. Even one with a zipper if you choose. The hard part is you have to remove your top for this to be done. They can remove the top for you but you will pay for their time.

I opted to put a new Canvas top on mine. No regrets as it is beautiful. I had found my vinyl top had shrunk enough to justify the new one. The old one worked and looked nice (other than the window) but it was just a pain to close in cool weather.

that's the rub. if the top is old enough for the rear light to be trashed, the top is too old to remain in use. a shrunken top will cost you more in breakage of other parts than the new top is worth.

another issue is that the rear light on a vert top is a listed, dot approved item. replacing it with a generic bit of vinyl doesn't really qualify the repair as legal. check out a vert with a good top sometime and you will see the dot approval stamp in the clear vinyl.

probably almost half that to fix existing top.....
