I have decided to post some of my Geo Metro work online. I would really appreciate it for people to weigh in on my project car. The outside is looking good and the inside is… Well not so good. It has an engine that has already been rebuilt, but I would like to find a good salvage engine to rebuild myself to gain some experience with engines. I’m not a professional mechanic, so I would like to hear from those who are. I would also like to hear from people who are just interested in following the project. ![]() So that’s the car. I don’t really have a name for it yet. So if you have any suggestions…… |

That's a really good looking paint job and a nice little car. What kind of interior work are you planning to do? You should check out my old thread in the how to for refinishing your door panels. |

The paint was done by the previous owner, who also did the engine ( I think about a year ago). I've only had the car for a couple of months and have driven it from MT to NM and back. I'm stoked after having driven a Jeep Cherokee for 9 years @ 20mpg. I love the jeep and still have it (I'm keeping it for the brutal MT winter). ---Pics on the way! |

You got the Metro, you got the tent, you got it going on... Very clean and good looking (almost) Coleman green paint job compliments the camping environment nicely. How about "Coleman" or "Camp Master" for a name?

So here’s a photo of the interior for those of you who were interested. You can tell that the original color was a light blue-green. I had stripped the carpet out and taken it to the carwash, where it was sprayed with high pressure water for about 10 minutes straight. I never could get all of the water to come out clear though. I also cleaned the bottom of the floor while the carpet was out which was NASTY. ![]() I also posted on the “wall of shame” thread about how the car had a thermostat in it. Yes a thermostat like you would have in your house on your wall was in my car. I had to go to the junkyard to find the actual fan speed selector switch to put back in. While I was there I got some other goodies too. ![]() ![]() My poor front disk brakes have had it though. I’m wondering whether it would be worthwhile to have them resurfaced. I’ve heard that the OEM discs in a lot of cases are made of higher quality material than the aftermarket discs. ???? If anyone has suggestions of what brand discs and pads are good for not too much noise, please let me know. ![]() ![]() Other than that, I filled up my radiator with vinegar solution, like I’ve been reading about. I drove the car about 40-50 miles today like that with the heater circulating, and am going to let it sit overnight. I’ll plan on doing a flush tomorrow. I also found a nasty old razor in the engine compartment under the battery. ![]() ![]() |

No unfortunately the tent cost less than the Geo. I think I got a sour deal on it frankly; but I'm doing my best to make lemonade out of it. |

That's a nice green color. Is it factory or does it look like it's been repainted? I'm not sure metro disks can be resurfaced. Lots of '90s Japanese cars can't (or at least shouldn't). Metro disks are cheap though. Don't despair - the car looks good and the interior will clean up. Oops - I see the car is a repaint. Still looks good. Edited by punkozuna, Jun 29 2014, 08:16 PM.

Sway bars are a huge help when the vehicle gets loaded with camping gear. I've ha my car packed floor to celling for camping many times. Also i see you have no back seat, lots of people have taken a pice of wood and fabbed a flat cargo space with doors that open to the wheel trunk and the butts of the rear seat. Insulation is a key to having a smooth successful trip in my opinion. Reduce that road drone and make a quiet long hauler looks great I kinda dig the green.

The brakes have lot of rust. I work on a 96 so yours is the older body and... disc brake style. Looking at the brakes and the rotor wear it looks like the rust has taken its toll. I would consider new rotors and pads. If you find the calipers not working correctly, I would just get a pair of rebuilt calipers. I saw some at about $45 shipped last week. There are some threads on here about which pads are better, but for myself I get whatever is the cheapest as I don't rally race thru the streets. |

Yeah dude, I do have the back seats. But this is what they look like: ![]() So yep. That's why they're gone. I think I'm going to look for some kind of replacement or remedy for these. Don't know what yet though. I have seat covers for them, but I decided to take them out when I was deep cleaning, and haven't put them back in yet. Maybe I'll try what you suggested though, as I usually don't have passengers. However, I would like to keep the back seats in case I might need them. |

My man, never fret the rear seats. Check this out - http://geometroforum.com/topic/4519755/1/?x=90 It's StiffCheeze's guide to washing your own seats. Now, this is a little time consuming but it's free and the results are amazing! You can get good results from the hand held upholstery cleaners - but nothing you can do will ever be as good as the StiffCheeze method. Also, see my results: http://geometroforum.com/single/?p=781477&t=5097297 My rear seats were worse than yours: http://geometroforum.com/single/?p=784213&t=5097297 Edited by jonathan180iq, Jun 30 2014, 02:34 PM.
