Update on the car: Over the weekend the carpet and car were drying and airing out. I had pressure washed the crap out of the carpet. Literally... or I guess that it's piss... Anyways, the carpet smells ok after the washing. I sprayed it with a couple of ounces of febreeze before I put it back into the car. I guess that I learned my lesson to NEVER EVER leave the window down at night.

Glad you got the odor out. If it comes back---There is a product from Clorox, comes in a blue container, it is used for bleach when washing colored clothes, good smell too. Wont change color of your fabric. |

Thought that I would share a couple of photos that I took on a weekend trip to East Glacier a few weeks ago. I've been so busy that I forgot to post them.![]() This was such a nice trip that I had to pull off the road a couple of times and enjoy the scenery. ![]() Cheers to everyone. I hope that soon you can enjoy a beautiful area too!

Today was a good day for the Metro. I had received a stereo bracket from Mythstae in the mail last week, and finally got around to installing it. The previous one had been sealed in with silicone glue. I had to cut it loose to get the dash out when I was doing some electrical repair earlier this summer. So it was basically just dangling loose. The installation went well. I guess that Mythstae must have had a Sony stereo too; the cage was already drilled in the right places. Now I need to find that plastic piece that fits around the perimeter of the stereo and AC controls. It had been ripped out and I only have a small piece remaining. I also want to find the center vents, they had been destroyed too (and yes I have already checked the local PNP and they’re all gone.) If anyone could help me out there, I would be willing to negotiate a price with you. Some other updates that I have failed to previously include are: 1) I had bought (at the junkyard) a Geo Decal for the steering wheel. I purposely installed it on upside down. This car has always been a little upside down. 2) I had also bought a different sun visor. The previous one was torn and kind of gross. I like clean cars, as much as I can help it. The only problem is that it was from a newer Geo and doesn’t fit correctly. It still snaps into place, but now it intersects with the dome light. Here are some photos I took: The old stereo setup, RTV and all. ![]() Here’s my sorry trip piece that’s for the HVAC controls. I’ll be looking for a new one. ![]() The stereo measures almost exactly the same width as the cage. 178mm. Had to take off the old hold-down plate with the bending tabs to make it fit though. ![]() Oh yeah, this piece also had to be deleted though. Not a big deal. The new setup is a huge improvement over the old. ![]() Here’s the piece with the bending tabs that had to be removed in order for the stereo to fit in the new bracket. ![]() Hey! My stereo cage came pre drilled! Less work for me. ![]() Here’s the new setup ![]() ![]() |

You did a swell job on your car so far and from the other side of the continent I congratulate you. Would you believe that sitting on my floor are front and rear seats for the GEO in brand new condition? They were removed from my car at 20 000miles, no rust whatsoever on the bottom pans. Too bad you are so far. Next step is to try and get better fuel economy: XFi cam drops in, final drive gear from a 4 cyl, drops in, clutch and flywhhel assembly also from the 1.3. The flywheel on a 3 weighs 15lbs, on the 1.3 it weighs 10 lbs and is silky smooth. Last, I had a greenish army bike centuries ago, It was named Gangreen. Edited by Frederick, Oct 7 2014, 11:42 AM.

Thanks for sharing I loved this. I bet with a little persuasion the 70hp turbo could be 80 or more HP

Not me, dude, I only own a '96! I bought that cage at the junkyard a while back.
It's slightly more inset that I would prefer for my own installation, but hey! That's the beauty of working on your own car; you get to make things suit your preferences!

I believe that the extra weight on the g10's flywheel is extra mass and weight to smooth out the 3-pot's idle. At least that's the theory from other 3-cyl engine forums. I'm curious how the 33% lighter flywheel is working out for you, if you've done it already Frederick. |

The whole rotational mass difference is less than a 2lbs difference. So, less than 10% lighter in reality. 3 cylinder = heavier flywheel & lighter clutch. 4 cylinder=lighter flywheel & heavier clutch. Great project, James!

I'm not Frederick but I'll comment anyway.Changed to the 1.3 set-up about 8months/4000miles ago. Seems like it revs up faster--might be in my head. My reasons for changing to the 1.3 Set-up was two fold. First I changed from a 4.38 tranny to a 4.1 tranny and Second I went from stock tires to 185/65-15 tires. I felt that both of these things would put more stress on the clutch.---So far things have worked out great. If I was still running the stock engine/tranny/tires I would have stayed with the stock clutch set-up |

Cool, thanks. I've been wondering about lighter flywheels. Some guys even go aluminum. |
