Finally had a chance to give it a little look over.

Posted Image

I'm not liking this lower radiator support. :'(

Posted Image

That is one big garage door opener over the hood, must be strong... :lol

I have a lower rad support off of a 1996 hatchback Base Metro, not sure if it would fit a older Vert, and shipping would be $$$$$ from Seattle...but if you know it will fit and want to try shipping let me know. ^o)

I drilled out all the spot welds to get it off and had to pry a bit so a couple edges are bent a little, but I think a hammer will get them back to the correct spot. This may be the deal breaker...it's green not white... :lol

Thanks for the offer. But I think the 95+ are wider. :hmm Anyway, I opted for a boot, or sleeve, of sorts method. I fileted the old Ice Blue, bent up support, for the sleeve.

Posted Image

Hammered it back, into shape, and prepped for welding.

Posted Image

Used C-clamps to press on and weld.

Posted Image

Posted Image

It ain't pretty, but is light years better than it was. I soaked down the inside with this stuff.

Posted Image

The exterior was soaked down with Permatex Rust Treatment. Hopefully this will slow down the inevitable. :'(

Time to drop in the engine while things are drying.

Posted Image

It's in! :thumb

Posted Image

Now I have to get the rest, of this stuff, put back on. :gamerz

Posted Image

Was quite a weekend. ^o) Will hit it again tomorrow night. :cheers

I just couldn't leave that ugly lower radiator support as is. Added a generous amount of seam sealers and then a coat of paint.

Posted Image

Engine is complete and running! :thumb

Posted Image

I'll post a couple videos in a little bit. :coffee They turned out a little blurry this time. :hmm Stay tuned. :popcorn

Tonight, I hope to fabricate a bug guard/AC delete plate, double check everything, and re-install Kim's horns.

Posted Image

I think the duct tape may have to go. :lol

The coolant leak ended up being these TBI hoses.

Posted Image

I normally replace All hoses when doing a re-fresh. ^o) This time, since this was a quick "get it on the road" build, I re-used the ones that looked OK. :smackface Word to the wise, when the engine is out, change them all. :banghead Your back will thank you.

Kim & Jim's hood bumpers were missing. The hood latch was taking a terrible pounding flopping around like that. :'( Napa has these nice, adjustable stoppers. :thumb

No more rattling hood! :banana

Took it for a little spin. Engine runs, and performs, great. :drivin

Posted Image

The coolant fan Did turn on this time. But the gauge only read about half. :'( Installed a new sender from my spare parts. :gamerz After giving it a good run, to seat the rings, I changed the oil.

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

Should be rinsed out, and ready for the next 500 miles. Then we'll change to "the good stuff" for the normal oil change cycle. In this case, due to driving style, Should be 3 months or 3000 miles, which ever comes first. ^o) Jim, are you reading me? :fon :-/ :lol

Horns are installed.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Still had to use a little Gorilla Tape, but they're a lot more solid than they were.

Custom A/C delete panel.

Posted Image

I had to place, the panel, on the outside due to the air bag sensor. Now Kim & Jim have an A/C delete panel like their son Nate.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Just keeping it in the family, eh? :lol

When using a universal upper radiator hose, there's a rub point next to the battery. Just use a piece, of the old hose, for a nice guard. :thumb

Posted Image

Time to put the little buddies back in the garage.

Posted Image

And no, that's not a gas leak. :lol At least, I don't think so. :hmm ;) Just the last remains, of the monsoons, over Memorial Day weekend.

I'll take the convertible to work today, and run errands, to double check everything. I think we have a runner! :cheers

That's what it's supposed to do , isn't it? In my experience, if you see it budge above half, something is wrong.

Nice work, they're lucky to have an expert go over their car.

Well, yes & no. :hmm On our past 91, 92, 93, and 94 Metros, the coolant fan would come on at a little past 3/4. Will the new sender, theirs is doing the same. :thumb
I know the "expert" statement was satire. ;) If not, it should be. ^o) No expert by a long shot. :shake

Car was delivered last night. :drivin They seem please with the results. :thumb Next we need to tackle the floor rust. :gamerz
For now, they're just enjoying the ride. :cheers

I'm used to never seeing it budge no matter what. But it's been 20 years since I had a GEN2, so perhaps memory has faded.

No satire intended. Compared to 99% of the people who could be working on their car, you're definitely an expert. Maybe not what most would consider an expert mechanic, but certainly an expert on Metros.
