Greetings! My name is Charlie and I am the proud owner of a 1992 Geo Metro XFi. It is "Aqua" in color with a light gray interior. I purchased the hatch to commute because the other car I owned was a '92 600SEL. With that sold, the Metro is my sole mode of transportation. I bought it from the original owner who bought it new in Ohio and brought it to Washington State in the late 90's. The car had sat for five or six years before I picked it up so my primary goal was to clean it up. After a good detail the car is decent to drive. It runs smooth at 93mph, the fastest I could get on a flat road. Since the picture was taken I have replaced the left corner light with the year-correct amber lens and the driver mirror has been torn off by someone who really knows how to park. Instead of replacing the mirror I plan on buying a mirror delete plate from a RHD Holden Barina. (I would also like the amber front turn signal lenses.) I also plan on acquiring and installing the flush LSi capsule head lamp housings as well as a red panel to go between the tail lamp housings. I have some other plans for the car as down the road as far as wheels, suspension, seats, steering wheel, maybe even an engine swap. As far as gas mileage I have been averaging low 40's for city and low-to-mid 50's for highway. The gas mileage is phenomenal, if you're driving appropriately, of course.

Welcome to your new forum, charliekuney! :coffee

Yeah, that word "appropriately" can take a lot of fun out of doing stuff, eh. :lol

Seattle? Your going to have some new friends posting here in a few days. :D

Pics of the "mirror delete plate from a RHD Holden Barina" when you get one, please.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Here are a few more updated pictures. Does anyone know where I can locate the vehicle identification number on the engine block or transaxle housing?

The VIN is on a plate riveted to the dashboard up where the dash meets the windshield. You read it from outside looking through the lowest part of the windshield right in front of the instrument panel. I think it's also stamped into the firewall right behind the air cleaner frisbee.

The engine and transmission also have serial #'s, they're behind the radiator, where the engine and transmission meet.

Boom, the car has been gutted. I'm down to the dashboard, front seats, door panels and headliner and the last two might eventually come out as well. Found a dead mouse and plenty of mold and mildew.

Some questions:
I want to check the VIN on the engine and/or transmission to verify that they are actual XFi components...Where is it, or do I have to check the cam?
How do I remove the plastic vented panel below the windshield that surrounds the wiper arm bases?
Does the SF generation have a 4x100mm bolt pattern?

The numbers on the engine and the transmission will only tell you if they're the correct year. Only way to be sure of XFIocity is to measure the cam lobes, and count the wheel revolutions on the tranny. http://geometroforum.com/topic/4187023

To remove the cowl vent panel, you need to remove the wiper arms, then remove the plastic pop rivets that hold it on. Push in the tiny circle in the middle about 1/8th of an inch, then get a small screwdriver underneath and pry them up. Good chance they're going to break, that plastic doesn't like the sun very much.

All Metros have 4 x 4.5" bolt pattern, 4 x 114.3 in metric.

Woodie, I appreciate your help. I did do some searching on the XFi-cam check but I wasn't sure if there was an easier way. Thanks for all the information!
