I've had my 1996 firefly for about 4 months, and during that time the hatchback used to make a nice *thunk* kind of like the door of a BMW closing. but just this morning I tried closing it and it made this very loud *thud* but closed properly, the next time I used it, still the same awful *thud* but this time the lock wouldn't close, but after 2 tries it worked, then finally tonight I tried it again and I was making the terrible noise but it locked, I've never had this locking problem and I was wondering if this could be just the lock wearing out/breaking? it still closes and locks but it wasn't like it was before, I even check if the door seal was ripped which it wasn't, and I've been very careful with the hatchback and not slamming it. has anyone had this problem and if so what did you do? I know I sound a little picky but I rather find out whats happening with the hatchback lock before It accidentally stays open and someone steals stuff :scared
Thanks

Could just be the bump rubber adjustment. When the hatch is open, on the extreme corners of the inside of the hatch, there are black rubber bumper pads. They screw in and out of the metal of the hatch.

Perfect! I tightened the 2 rubber pad things quite a bit and now it sound like it should, I even tried opening and closing it 20 times to see if it locked and it works great now! I don't get how they got loosened though :hmm but I'm just glad that I don't need to change the door lock or something :thumb
Thanks Woodie!!
