Other posts on this forum give lists of center console interchange compatibility across the years and various makes of cars. I'm just going to show you how I did the install in my own car. I know others have done it differently. The great thing is - they all worked! ![]() First - find a Neon at your friendly pnp. It should have a good console with a manual transmission (if your car has a MT.) It's helpful if the color is close to your own interior, but that might be getting a little bit too picky. There are 4 Phillips screws in the rear box and two up front just behind the cup holders. Get them (just in case) and be sure to get the shift boot and armrest lid. I paid $15- for mine. Second - remove your seats. You'll find it next to impossible to make it fit if you don't. This is also a great time to clean your seats and carpet. When you're ready and the carpet's back in, put the console in just to see how it looks. Odds are it'll look like this. ![]() It's not a real good fit, but it has potential. Notice the oscillating tool sitting ready for action! If you don't have an oscillating tool, get one and charge it to this project! You will not be sorry!! Cut slowly to trim everything that doesn't look like you want it to. ![]() Here I have laid out the pieces I cut off to get it to fit. The console itself is wider than the tunnel, so forget about the factory screw locations on the sides of the old piece you removed with the seats. Here you can see that the Neon console screw locations don't line up with anything on the Metro. Note the base of the passenger side front screw hole silhouetted against the edge of the shifter cutout forward and to the right of the shifter. You're gonna need a pretty long screw to use that hole!! Notice how the brake handle is hitting? ![]() I cut the metal tab off the end of the shift boot frame. It'll just be in the way of the parking brake lever later. ![]() Speaking of which, the park brake handle hit the console, so I opened up a space for it and used edging on the hole. ![]() When I was trimming the bottom edges of the console, I pushed it all the way forward until the storage box hit the rear of the parking brake assembly. That gave me room to raise and lower the brake handle and it also centered the shifter (more or less) in the shifter hole. At some point along here you need to remove the shift knob so you can fit the shift boot. I didn't have all the metal bracketry that was under and around the Neon's shifter, so I didn't have anything to hold the shift boot in place. It was in the right position, but it was a sloppy fit. So I ran a bead of black silicone around inside of the groove that seats on the shifter hole edge, making sure that I didn't get any in a place that would show, and put the boot in place, lining it up carefully and then left the console overnight inverted over a cardboard box so there would be no forces on the boot. In the morning it was welded firmly in place. It's not going anywhere on its own!! As installed, the stock shift boot is still in place down below, acting as a weather seal. This shows the final fitment. The console is in position with the shift knob installed. At this point, I was making sure that the brake handle was centered in its slot, the shifter looked right and the side edge of the front of the console wouldn't interfere with my foot on the gas pedal. Your shifter may look a little longer than mine because I did the short shifter mod last year. ![]() There are four screw holes in the bottom of the storage box. The rear two are lined up with air, but the front two set directly over the horizontal pieces of the rear p-brake assembly housing. I used a couple of #8 x 3/4" self-drilling sheet metal screws with flat washers in those holes. ![]() It's a little trickier in the front because the console is so much wider than the tunnel, but it's not a problem. I put one screw in each cup holder because they were about the only part of the front end that was setting on the tunnel. (No they're not cross-eyed!! )![]() Put the seats back in and step back to admire your work!! Considering that the seats came out of a MKIII, and the console came out of a Dodge, I think the colors match pretty well!!

I know of one here with like 6 geos... I used to get parts all the time, then with the new owner wanting 300 dollars for a trans that was on the ground in the mud, while I get 5 speeds all day everywhere else for 130 bucks working + warranty...well you guessed it... didnt sell parts so they are crushed... I see enough geos in good condition in the junkyard because someone "gave up " on it, or they bought something new and shittier than a metro( they will soon learn this with dealership services). Soon parts will be harder to find, and most of the metros will be recycled into Chinese products... A a matter of fact I went to one that got rid of a 1.3 I was going to get the tranny and clutch/flywheel.. they didnt sell parts... crushed then brought in 5 metros?? I really wanted that flywheel...Assholes! Edited by Justahoby, Jul 27 2014, 12:32 PM.

The only problem I've encountered so far is that the cup holders are too small for the water bottle I've been using for several years now. Darn!! I really like that bottle, too!!
