Is having a "warm air intake" bad?? i took all the housing that lead to the wheel well and took out air box out, but is it bad for the engine to suck such hot air in everyday?? will it deminish the life of the engine? and if i block off the front bumper and grill it will get even hotter under the hood. I cant complain about mpgs thooo :) but i just wanna know if it hard on the engine, sure seems like it...

Not Really All That Smart

It's not going to hurt anything. Lots of members on here go that route. You're in Wisconsin so a grille block will probably serve you well in the colder months.

The Metro cooling system is very efficient and the little increase of air temp is only going to help your little engine burn fuel more efficiently.

your car has both a cold air intake, and a warm air intake allready installed.
cold air intake pulls cold air from the wheel well, and the intake and throttle body is heated b y coolant to around 180 degrees.

alright sweet, also would replacing the plastic top piece and air filter with something like this.. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/K-N-Custom-air-cleaner-assembly/_/N-25j5?itemIdentifier=92458_0_0_ but obviously the right size and everything increase air flow and i would benifit? because now it can only suck air from that little hole the hose is suppose to connect to, just a thought, let me know if you would think it would be benifical

Just take the snout off the air filter housing and you have a nice wide straight opening. Then do a TBI Bridge Delete and you'll have as good a filter as it gets at no cost.

:congrats

I've been blessed with not having to remove the air cleaner much over the years so the bridge delete works well for Moi. :D

Might check out Jonathan's 1998 ChevGeo Metro page 6, post #90

A little more searching and snowfish, metro_neel, VWguyBruce and t3ragtop all posted pics in snowfish's thread: Edelbrock Air Cleaner Install

I used this once, it involved cutting the air cleaner top off...

I may go back to that to see if I get better than 41 mpg around town town doing short trips, with nothing over 7 mi. :-/
