Wondering where to look first, second. Since the DRL's still work (and the high beams) I'm not in panic mode yet but the stupid low beams went out the other night and I'm not sure where to start looking for the problem. This is a "base" car with 4x6 headlights. I put in Hella headlamp conversions with standard output 45/55watt bulbs. These should not have anything to do with this problem but I mention them anyway. Any ideas would very much be appreciated! |

45/55 watt head light lamps are not "standard" for a metro. they use 35/35 lamps. ![]() |

Actually per Sylvania's website, H4666 headlight bulbs are rated 45 watts on low beam and 65 watts on high. This is for the "standard" halogen headlamp. The "XtraVision" and "SilverStar" bulbs are 55 watts on low and 65 watts on high beam. Wondered what kind of headlights are "only" 35 watts? |

Doesn't really matter, your problem is one of the most common things that all Metros do, even with everything stock. On the fusebox under the dash, where the headlight switch plugs in, the connector overheats and melts. Unplug everything that plugs into the fusebox and have a good look at the connectors. I'll bet you find one burned. |

depending on the year it may not be in the fuse panel. i have a 97 and it was on the harness going to the switch. |

I found the problem in a connector a few inches from the fuse box, the wire was red with a white stripe and the connector was discolored and felt warm after I took it apart and put it back together and the low beams were working again. I didn't trust the connector since it was warm to the touch so I cut the red with white striped wire off each side of the connector and reconnected them with a crimp type connector. I really appreciate the help, it was great to be able to go to the correct area to look for the problem! Sorry I am not skilled enough to post a few pictures for those interested to see but hopefully someone else can be helped by my problem too. |
