cb, i'm an old fart past my prime, but i have muscle definition in my forearms where most guys don't even have muscles. and i have witnesses. my forearms would make popeye blush and brutus run away. ![]() my point is that if you use a standard 10mm combination wrench it won't have enough angular moment, a long enough lever arm, whatever, to apply enough torque to shear an m6 x 1.0 bolt. and mac, it's not that i haven't sheared any bolts before. i busted about 70% of the rusty crap on my current resto-rod vert project just trying to get them out to replace or recondition suspension parts, etc. i've gotten really good at drilling out rusted crap, tapping the holes for new hardware, and getting new bolts back in. when i was a machinist i always snugged up bolts on tool rests and tool holders on machine tools. if they put another guy on any of my machines they would always have me go back over and loosen the stuff so he could do his own machine setup. one man's idea of "tight" and another's can be quite different so there is a validation for using a torque wrench. i never install my suzuki 7 spoke rims without a click stop torque wrench dialed up to 45 ft/lbs. my only point is that for most small hardware the tool you use is generally designed to apply close to the correct torque required without having to strain your gizzard. the tools are also designed to not apply excessive torque.
