length of muffler

So Im gonna put a muffler on my 91 3/5

I bought it without half the exhaust and bought the part from the cat back and Mr. Mullet himself was able to get it hooked on. At the time I didn't care or have cash for a muffler, but now I will have one put on.

My issue is the guy who is gonna weld it on for me looked at the car and said he wasn't sure if they had mufflers that small or that one of the previous owners may have put on a bigger pipe at some point (I'm the 4th owner).

So if someone can snap some pics and measurements of their muffler from the weld point all the way to the furthest most tip I shall give you many internet pizzas and beers😁

Thanks guys/gals

...I would need to see pictures of your set up, but when my muffler broke (the pipe rusted right where it went into the muffler), I got a couple of exhaust pipe clamps, about a foot or so of exhaust pipe and a stock muffler insert from my Harley.

MacGyver'ed 'em together and been running with that for the last few years.

Here is what I would recommend:
First, is it the muffler or is there a tail pipe out of it and a piece of pipe going into it?
Is the pipe diameters the same for the cat assembly & muffler assembly?
If it is the muffler assembly take it to an auto parts store (I go to Advance).
Go down the aisle that has exhaust adapters & clamps.

A couple of these, clamps and the gasket for in between will mate up the cat pipe to the muffler assembly.

They have reducers and extenders too. If the pipe's ID are the same an extender slipped inside (or outside) both pipe ends & two exhaust clamps & ya got it.

The pipe at the rear doesn't have a flanges end to use a nut and bolt setup.

How would that piece work?

If neither pipe ends have a flange then you should be able to get away with using an extender & two clamps to mate them together. How long is the pipe coming out of the muffler to connect to the pipe out of the cat?
Don't forget the hangers to suspend it from the underbody.

It actually just sounds like a normal Metro. Now if I would have put on one of the Screamin' Eagle Pro II muffler inserts...I would probably have been ticketed already....

I bought a 12" Jones glasspack for my Geo. I believe that was the length I measured to replace the original. The pipe was the same as pipe from the Cat. to the resonator (if you have one). I believe that is 1-1/2".

Here is an eBay search for: 1991 Geo Metro Muffler; $15-$40

This is one result for a Walker: $38.23

Another result: For $41.43.

No problem.

My wife's nickname for me is "MacGyver" because I improvise workable, durable repairs in stuff.
Its not cutting corners, just working with what you got on hand.
