But choices are quite limited (and pricey) for the stock 145 80 12 size, so I am thinking I'll go with these GT Radials in a few weeks for the front two.

Well, I finally bit the bullet and ordered two of these from SimpleTire. Want to replace the front tires before the first snow comes. Will report back when installed.

GeoPanda, have you had any snow yet? If so, how did the Maxtours do?

we ordered some Altimax winter tires in a 12 inch from tire-easy. Paid 230 something including shipping. date was the year was 12 drove 10 miles and had one fail. Put the spare on and got home. car sat in the drive way for a few days and the others started losing air. Sent them back and waiting on a refund.
Had a local place swap them out with the same make for a few dollars more a tire. the "new ones are a year older. Im guessing they either dont make them anymore or wait till they are sold to make a few more. So far we are impressed with hoe they handle dry and wet snow.

Drove the new Maxtours in slushy conditions during our little winter storm here on Wednesday, and they seemed quite solid. Looking forward to trying them in real snow. Anyone else have experience with them in snow so far this winter?

Maybe you were thinking about when Budweiser "invented" the "born on" date for beer? ;)
Now that's funny...

These aren't the Douglas they follow more closely as the Viva 2. Douglas is made by goodyear. I used to work at wally world tire center and the douglas and viva 2 are specific to wally world

well, nyc pretty much got a pass on the storm.

maybe you should drive to boston this evening and tell us how the 12" tires work out. :P

the only problem i have had with driving a metro on snow came from 9" fresh snow that pushed up in a hump ahead of me and then the car rolled up on the hump. the front tires came right up off the ground. ;)

No problems so far getting in and out of snowy street parking spots in the NY metro area.
