Wiper Blades; Worth the money
Topic Started: Jul 30 2014, 08:24 PM (1,682 Views)
Memphis metro

I want to know as much as you can tell me about wiper blades. Of course I am cheap and I hate spending money on wiper blades and usually buy the cheapest thing I can find. While I used to get pretty good service out of cheap blades, that is not the case anymore. They last no time. I am looking for suggestions on quality wiper blades that might be expensive but you consider worth the money and are long lasting and quality made that you have had good success with. Thanks for your input. I see a few suggestions under the search function but maybe someone has some new information on the subject. I am getting tired of my rubbers failing and falling off!

I do not know about Metro but for all my other car i go to the dealer, They are expensive (like 25$ each) but they seem to last forever, My Civic still have the Original one, 1 Winter in Quebec (pretty bad) and she over 20k on the car and they work and look like new.

everything i buy "cheap" on at Canadian Tire they seem to last a few months only.

"Cheap" rubbers are more expensive than the quality kind. I mean, what with child support and all ... :O :O :O

I like Trico, Icon and Bosch. I get them at the McParts store. I replace mine twice a year. Once at the end of summer so I have good ones going into winter, and again coming out of winter because all the slop and stuff they have to deal with through our 5-month winters wears them out. I just hate streaky wipers!!

I Can't Find My Tent...

I went to the Zone and bought some Bosch wipers the last time. So far they have been the best wipers I have ever had. We are planning to put them on the other car and the pickup when they need them.

I recently purchased a bunch of wiper blades from rockauto that were on special. Some were Napa brand, some were Trico, some were China special brand. Less than $2 each. Sorry I don't have a favorite brand to mention, but thought this might help.

our winter conditions are TUFF on wiper blades. I get mid grade blades and change em out at the first sign of a streak. usually works out to spring and fall.

reminds me of a song! "wiper blades" by Haywood Banks! quite funny.

The best wiper blades are the ones that come from the factory. The current norm of throwing away perfectly good blade assemblies every 20K miles for replacements that may or may not fit properly is madness. Get Trico refills and put them in your existing blades, once you get up to 100K miles or so you might think about replacing the entire blade.

Very true. Having driven my truck half a million miles and gone through several windshields I can now tell when it it is the windshield that needs replacing. As the windshield gets miles on it it gets pitted really bad. This wears out the blades quickly no matter what brand you use. It is like running them on sand paper.

I have it on my list to check youtube / google and see if someone has a tutorial on how to adjust wipers. I have had horrible luck with the ones on my Metro (they always streak). I have tried cheap ones and expensive ones but have not noticed a difference. It is like they are bent or not pushing hard enough or something.

I bought a bunch of off brand wipers from Dollar General. They were on the markdown aisle and I think I paid a buck fifty per blade. All sorts of lengths. Heck, for that price I bought about 15 and still have plenty.

I use rainx. When I have to use the wipers it is usually at low city speeds in heavy rain, in other words very seldom. When I use the wipers in that manner they get a build up of something, (rainx?) on them. I can usually use a cleaner such as simple green and clean them and they quit streaking. If they get really bad I fold 400 grit emery cloth and lightly sand them for good results.

Living on the pacific northwest coast I change my wipers at least twice, sometimes three times a year. Havent found ANY that will last any prolong length of time.
