Vert headlights on my base model

These things were passed over on a cosmetically stripped vert( some stuff on it if anyone wants to know when I go to junkyard again) .
I went for a 12 in rim with a decent tire to replace my spare.. And couldn't resist these :shit stained , oxidized wonders..
Price: tire that held air with tread, composite shit headlights $57'..
I used some sandpaper 400 grit to knock off the yellow, 1000 , then 2000.
Then like 4 different buffing compounds from heaven to polish and a wax buff in the end.

As you see it worked quite well, that comparison was before I finished buffing..

Here is a comparison ... I got rid of one dumb looking black eye...
Reminds me of the Firefly composite lights on these cars growing up in Canada.. The square black eye look on all these geo sent to the US ?? :wtf

Then finally after ripping the cold air box and going through hell on partial removal of the inner wheel well, I had to do the other side.. I may take the drivers side back off and bend the bracket slightly ( I think it was bent before I pulled it).. Otherwise, the headlights it should of had.( I couldn't afford to import glass ones).. 25 bucks and some time to do plastic make over.
And you all can't bolt plastic on your gf, the Geo you can! It's much cheaper. :rofl

Cool .. I plan on going through chevy truck stuff tomorrow ( hence I will be driving my thirsty454 :beer ) Seems there are a few people picking the metros over quickly . I am taking a break from used part metro shopping, unless I spot something I may want...

Thats before using the final polish compound... :rocker

Yes toothepaste does work, but it was a step coarser than one of my compounds i went back and I re did it. it was a step backwards for me..
I had to sand mine first with 400 on one, and stated with a 1000 on the other working my way to 2000 grit.. these headlamps were just nasty

That assumes that toothpaste will always work on every headlight no matter what the type of contaminants that worked their way into the plastic are, and toothpaste just wouldn't do it for mine. And believe me I tried!

They seem to be a couple of those ungrateful headlights that were exposed to something out of the ordinary for a long time (and since it lived in Ohio, it sure wasn't excess UV!) and just won't be happy again until they get some serious sandpaper before finer grits and clearcoat! :(
