That's what I'm hoping for perfesser. Going to recheck them after I get the crank ground and get the new bearings. |

Took the block to the machine shop today. He checked the cylinders and the # 1 and 3 were out by about .005" and the #2 cylinder was out .011" Told me I'm good to go with a .020" over piston. Working on getting them ordered and get this thing moving forward again. |

Glad that the balancing worked out. One small note for future reference. With the rods as close to being exactly in line as they appear to be in your pic it will be so sensitive as to be very, very hard to get the end to end balance to work. If you have the rods in a little bit more of a ^ shape they will balance up much, much easier and it is still incredibly accurate. Perfesser is right, it makes for smooooth running. |

Good choice. A rebuild of unknown quality may be just as bad as what you currently have. I have seen people "rebuild" engines by honing the cylinders with sandpaper, installing new rings, and just putting the thing back together. I have seen some done this way actually work while others are what you would expect. None of these were G-series engines. Other rebuilt engines are just as good, if not better than new. Jasper comes to mind for this. Geo Glenn rebuilds lots of engines for people on here but he may have a line built up so you would have to wait. Conor |

I would rather complete rebuild it and know what I have in it. Don't mind spending money on something that can last me quite a few years. I only drive about 5000 miles a year and after my mom passes away it will cut it down even more. But I'm hoping that will be a few years from now. Car that is taken care of should get a easy 200,000 mile shouldn't. It should last me about 40 years then. Car came from Arizona so there is no rust on it. Just needs a good engine, which is what it will get. |

Got a call for the machine shop today, Said the block needs decked. Warped some from the PO running it hot. Figured it would be screwed up. Should have it done in a few days. How much can be shaven off the head and block before it changes the timing of the valves? Would I need to get a modified cam sprocket to help this? I plan on putting the XFI cam I have in the engine. |

Any amount decked messes with the timing. There is a calculation to be done that will help you out. Several of the people here who are engine builders can tell you the exact amount that it well retard based on the amount you deck. |

Thanks for the reply CB. I'll have to wait and see what they had to take off of it and see if the geo guru's can help me figure it out. |
